Monday, 29 June. Black Swan. Wynand du Toit, Author and Ex-prisoner of War

Sent by Vagabond, this is a must watch. South Africa went from a prosperous First World nation to a complete dystopian nightmare in the span of 30 years with the specter of Chinese neo-colonialist fingerprints all over it. We’re not far behind them if we don’t act. -NCS

Thanks for finding this pointed piece. Back in the mid 80’s I considered taking a job in South Africa in one of their larger mining operations. At that time they were considered the best miners in the world. But even back then it was dicey even for the blacks, that is how they called themselves, working the mines. A story was told to me by the recruiter that the black workers were offered a company paid life insurance due to the hazards of the work but they turned it down. They feared that their wives would have them killed for the quick money and asked for more pay instead. This is who is running their country now.
China wants the mineral wealth and will stop at nothing to get it.

Vagabond….sucky slides into dire very quickly.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time in SA hunting over the last decade. Infrastructure is crumbling, capex in key industries is absent, social services (like water, sewer, schools etc) are a far cry from what was available years ago. Corruption has spiked. We have gotten to know two trackers, on the professional hunter’s team we use. They’ve said rhetorically to us….what’s better freedom with horrible or nonexistent social serviceS and infrastructure or little freedom with organized infrastructure and services. They both were being very careful to not criticize the ANC but they made their point.

Our professional hunter friend has for the last 10 years we’ve known him has been warming us that the SA experience over the last 30 years was coming to the US. His two points, our conflict would be a mix of racial and economic class warfare instigated by the left and the slide into chaos would be much faster than we would believe could happen. Our PH friend hit the nail on the head.
