Tribalism In Practice: The Chechen Vendetta Code

Tribalism has become a sort-of meme these days people use to describe small groups of like-minded people. And that definition has a ton of problems; negating reality, it ignores the entirety of the dominant social order in a place. Whether you like it or not, the reality is you have a spot in the hierarchy and/or power structure. And its not something that can be replicated or recreated overnight. When ‘shtf!’, that order will very much still exist and it’ll be enforced by blood rather than a hollow implicit threat.

Take the Chechen example. Theirs is a society based on centuries-old familial alliances, quite similar to our cultures dominated by Scotch and Irish traditions in the Appalachian and foothills regions of the mid-Atlantic.

There’s a lot of lessons to be learned here; first and foremost, that there’s no such thing as anarchy even in the absence of a formal governing power structure as they experienced during both Chechen Wars. You will be held accountable for your actions (or inactions) to a larger community. The second is that in the absence of a formal power structure, the informal patriarchy will become the dominant influence. Challenges to that get disposed of. Third, the armed culture is reflective of the larger, dominant culture. They’re not simply armed to be armed, its a threat they’ll make good on. Maybe not today, but definitely when you least expect it. Last, outsiders find themselves of no value to the larger community. Don’t be the outsider and look like everyone else. That guy squawking about being a sovereign citizen will find himself in a ditch.

On the bright side, societies become far more cohesive. The recognition of a common struggle creates a stronger and more unified culture. Words gain meaning, people tend to behave within the bounds of normality. It is a return to sanity that many strongly desire and while that learning curve is high, it’ll also rectify a number of problems we currently experience at the hands of the social divisions inherent in post-industrial society.

If you want to know what a post-breakup US might look like, Chechnya is a good example.

That guy squawking about sovereign citizen will definitely be in the ditch sooner than later. No one has time for that junk right now much less in tough times where actions not words matter to your very existence.
When I was in the Balkans in the 90s the groups weren’t all “like minded” but if they didn’t come together quickly they didn’t last long.

Over the years Ive heard a LOT of tough talk about Tribes and like minded ppl coming together, and met quite a few. Its all been 100% bullshit. I coined the term “The Tribe Must Survive” with the last group I tried it with. Out of all the ppl I met they looked like they had it together like none Id met in the past. I was impressed to say the least.. Alas as time went on the mockery, double standards and two faces of the “leaders” of the “tribal community” started showing through the illusion of “brotherhood” they spun. It was worse then the worst bunch of lazy high-school kids when it was all said and done. Once again ppl prove to me its their fantasy FB Memes they want to live, not the reality of hard determination, dedication, loyalty, and commitment to the ppl you bring together. Talk is so fricken cheap. I promised myself it would be the last time Id try. Groups these days are born from charlatans who can talk good shit, lie well, make jokes to captivate the group and buy the most expensive kit while they talk the loudest. None of that makes good leaders who care about thier ppl. It whats the net has given us to work with in times of plenty. Its like a FB wall in real life. It has 0 application to running a group or managing ppl in times of real adversity and sorrow. I think the real leaders and tribes will rise to the top when this all comes crashing down. I think real leaders are the borne from times of hardship, not planned because they made a fancy webpage, have 100,000 followers they payed for with ads, or bought a rank pin off Amazon to call themselves a leader. I know the basic, ordinary and unassuming men will be the real leaders of real tribes. Today we just have garbage and lies. Anyone can call anyone “Brother” and somehow its suppose to mean something these days. Ive always been of the opinion Tribes are borne from REAL adversity in actual hard time- Not guns, gear, common interests or tough empty talk. These days I find reasons not associate with others. I get SO much more done. Whats more is i see a LOT of ppl being lead to their death by some of these so called leaders, gurus, instructors and other con personalities the net has bred..
