In the midst of it all.

For any short while that I’ve been away or out of it, the world always continues it’s march toward whatever oblivion awaits, whether it be war, economic disasters, societal collapse, etc. Donald Trump is being assaulted with whatever type of coup the democrats can cook up this month, white people are still the scapegoat for everything, “refugees” from North Africa, the Middle East and South America are flooding into Western countries and raping and killing the people who helped get them there. I step aside for a bit, and the world that was aflame is still burning just the same when I come back.

So it pays to remember what you can do in the face of all of that, the things that will actually have a positive effect when it eventually comes to a region or community near you.

Grow your own food. Hunt and fish. Collect your own water. Rainwater doesn’t require much work to make it drinkable.

Homeschool your kids, even if it’s only for a few years. If you’ve got the curriculum, the time and the effort, they’ll come out ahead of their peers and they’ll get to skip some of the progressive-globalist brainwashing.

Get to know your neighbors. Then get to know your neighborhood. Then get to know the next neighborhoods. Then your town. You need to know where your friends are, as well as your enemies. When the balloon goes up, is your neighbor going to call you and ask about initiating the defense plan? Are they going to knock on your door asking for food? Are they going to report you to the local police for having those scary “assault weapons”? Are they just going to kick your door in at 0200?

Learn skills. Do your own yardwork, vehicle maintenance, home repairs, assist family and friends with their own stuff. You’re going to need to know how to fix that pipe or replace those brakes.

Go back to school for a trade. You may not need to do a full career change, especially if you’ve already got a job that provides monetary security (for now), but a new skill set could save you. How valuable could it be post SHTF when you’ve got a little bit of recent EMT experience? EMT school is like, one semester. A lot of community colleges have free or cheap skill classes like woodworking or auto mechanic classes.

Invest in tools. Every man should have a hammer, several sets of pliers, vice grips, a set of wrenches, a set of screwdrivers, socket set, tape measure, drill or impact driver, circular saw, at least a couple of heavy duty extension cords, and so on. A good set of tools is more valuable than the money you pay for them. A “saws-all” is great to have.

You need guns, and not just a few. You need a “set” to handle whatever happens. You’ll need a .22 rifle or some other type of small varmint rifle. I’m not going to nitpick about semi-auto vs bolt. Just get a little varmint rifle. A Savage bolt action in .22LR or a Ruger 10/22 is fine. Next is a 12 gauge shotgun. Something like a Mossberg 500 or a Remington 870 is fine, but there is massive market of 12 gauge shotguns out there. You could substitute a 20 gauge or a .410 if you really want, but that’s not going to cover everything a 12 gauge can. Next is a fighting pistol. That’s something that’ll let you defend yourself from other people up close. I don’t personally have use for a revolver or a sub-compact semi-auto (low ammo capacity). A fighting pistol is something I can carry and have some larger capacity. I carry a Glock 19. You can figure out what’s best for you. Now you need a fighting rifle. AR, AK, FAL, Mini-14, M1A, etc. Lastly is a long range bolt action. Everything from a Remington 700 to a Mosin 91/30 will suffice, so long as you can hit a man-sized (read “deer sized”) target out to, say, 200 yards. I know plenty of you might gripe about me not requiring a 1 inch group at 400 yards, but I’m not talking to you. I’m talking to someone who may not even own one of these weapons yet.

Buy ammo. Buy a lot of it. I have four digits of rounds and I’m running short. WAY short. Especially on 5.56/.223. I need to get on Ammo.com.

Oh, and when you get up in the morning, make your bed. Not to go all Dr. Jordan Peterson on you, but it does make a difference.

That is all, for now.

Fantastic post! Thank you. Encouraging, sober and practical. I needed this reminder and prompt to keep checking off the boxes.

But if I make up my bed at 0400 she’s gonna be mad since she don’t get up till 0800 ?

Thank you for your post. A lot of good advice stated there. Becoming more self reliant is never a bad idea. Knowing your neighbors and their mindset is important because in ‘desperate times’, priorities change and their safety over yours will change attitudes.

Another thing to stock – spare footwear. Most clothing can be layered or altered but try making a pair of boots from scratch and see how that works for you.

Great info! Also, don’t forget communications! In a SHTF scenario the internet & both cell & landline phone systems will be gone. Get an amateur radio license through the General Class & even the EXTRA. Have several hand held radios along with a good HF portable rig with access to all the shortwave bands. If possible, learn CW (Morse code) in case the amateur bands become crowded or jammed. Contact NC SCOUT here at American Partisan for advice on equipment, operations & tactics. I’m planning on taking his RTO course next year.
Best Wishes for 2020 & be prepared!

You know, I’ve added to your last line a personal commitment to present myself each morning shaven and wearing clothing that isn’t ratted out, even if nobody will see me all day.
