Which ammunition is purchased by the billion by the national military, national govt and LE?
Which weapon platform is used by the national military, national govt and LE?
Which one has an inherently better mounting system for optics from 1X red dots to long range scopes?
In the USA, it’s the AR, obviously.
That said, either platform will work better than 95% of their users are capable of using it for.
And I will say this until I’m blue in the face:
Superior TACTICS will defeat superior RIFLES every time.
A squad of well trained, well lead, sneaky stealthy quiet Boy Scouts armed with Ruger 10-22s will re-arm with “battlefield pickups” in no time.
ARs, AKs, or any other platform.
Tactics and training are 100X more important than which platform somebody starts out with.

It would be wise to know how to run both.

The AK is the second greatest military small arm ever made.(After the Garand) The Stoner is the worst military small arm ever made. IF this nation ever go’s to war with it’s self . Everyone carrying the AR will be dead in weeks as the Stoner’s fail them in the field. This is just MY opinion. Now you might see that nothing is settled on this score. Nor will it ever be. I was an 11B for six years in the 1970’s. I hate stoners and disagree with everything you say about them. I will die to defend your right to say it. I just won’t commit suicide by trusting a stoner ever again. I have never seen on that didn’t fail at some point. My Russian factory built AKM is 1.5 MOA and never fails. As I said. Nothing settled.

Enjoyed the video but I gotta ask- where’d you get the shirt!? Im a huge Maiden fan and I gotta have one. Lead farmer site doesn’t have.
As far as the debate on which gun is the right gun goes- I default to what my Grandad always said: If it doesn’t feel right, get rid of it. Pretty simple, not every gun is gonna work for every person. Personal taste, ability, and competency levels vary across the board.

The best choice to use is the one you have ammunition for.

Okay, I’ll be the first to weigh in. I carried the AR in the Army. My A1 model had a chromed bolt and chamber and a three-pronged flash suppressor. If it was kept clean and well-anointed with LSA, it worked like a charm. My Yugo AK was the most rugged, uncomplicated, reliable semi-auto I have ever owned. I regret I had to sell it. I believe the issue now is: What do you want your go-to battle rifle to do?
If and when things start to break down, the Orcs and Orcettes at all levels will be carrying .308, 5.56, and 9MM. The issue will be battlefield pick-up and ammo availability. I believe we must all keep that in mind. If your AR platform suits you, practice head shots. If you want reliability and ease of maintenance in a dirty environment, get an AK, preferably a Yugo N-PAP or an Arsenal. Have some type of .308 caliber long gun for serious work. Handguns should be 9MM; but I still carry my .38 Chief’s. Above all, my friends, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. Bleib ubrig.

    What Matt said.
And, yes everyone should know how to run both; that’s elemental.
I train a goodly number of women; all prefer the AR ( and yes, all know how to run the AK).

Rightly or not, a lot of people associate the AK with gangs (including a lot of cops and Fudds). If SHTF and people are scared, I don’t want one of those untrained guys to go all Rambo and shoot first and ask questions later. Just another angle to think about. While I own both, the AR is primary.

One more data point; MACV-SOG, an outfit having a plethora of weapons choices and few, if any, chickenshit restrictions overwhelmingly used the AR ( in this case the XM-177). The odd AK might have been carried by an isolated point man (wearing an NVA pith helmet) but professional guys far from home bet their lives in the “Stoner” so derided by a one-enlistment conventional soldier.
As an aside, there were Warsaw Pact weapons used to great effect; SSG Eldon Bargewell used an RPD and was credited with breaking a determined enemy attack with it.
