Is a mask (or lack thereof) the uniform of your enemy?

The new phenomenon in American and Western society now is that everyone is wearing masks to prevent catching the COVID-19 virus. It’s the latest and greatest way to identify who your enemies are, who you should hate and revile. Get caught in public without one and, God forbid, have your picture posted on Facebook or Twitter and you’re in for an onslaught of hate and insults. For those unlucky enough to live in a really progressive location, your badged friends may even be called to write you a fine for it.

But what effect does wearing a cloth mask or a basic medical-type mask actually have? Let’s ask one of the few medical publications that are still at least moderately non-politicized (for now), the New England Journal of Medicine in this article:

“We know that wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from infection. Public health authorities define a significant exposure to Covid-19 as face-to-face contact within 6 feet with a patient with symptomatic Covid-19 that is sustained for at least a few minutes (and some say more than 10 minutes or even 30 minutes). The chance of catching Covid-19 from a passing interaction in a public space is therefore minimal. In many cases, the desire for widespread masking is a reflexive reaction to anxiety over the pandemic.”

Oh, I see.

Now it’s worth mentioning that the masks they’re talking about are not the N95 type. Those can keep you safe from infection, under the assumption that the mask is the right size for you and has been fitted properly and that you’re trained or knowledgeable in putting them on and taking them off properly. And no, it’s not as simple as it sounds.

Regardless, the vast majority of people are not wearing properly fitted and donned N95 masks. Most are wearing non-sealing cloth masks or basic paper medical masks which offer no protection for the wearer at all, and like the NEJM states, is really only effective in making the wearer feel better about themselves and, here’s the real keyworse about those who aren’t following suit.

IF you have symptoms, the theory is that wearing a mask like this can keep you from spreading it to others, but even that is not totally effective. If you have symptoms, stay at home until you heal up. If you think you’ve been exposed to the virus, quarantine from people for ten days (notice I didn’t say you have to lock yourself inside your room and avoid the outdoors). Masks are not having nearly the effect the powers in charge say they are. It’s in my own professional opinion as an emergency room RN (who is now seeing a massive increase of COVID in my area) that masks are primarily pushed by those in charge because of their use as a dividing tool. Everything in the media today is designed to divide people against each other. A mask (or lack thereof) is a visual indicator of who your enemies are.

Is it any surprise that the media is saying that evil right wingers are less likely to wear a mask?

    CDC on masks

    Search for this text:
“ “Two studies in university settings assessed the effectiveness of face masks for primary protection by monitoring the incidence of laboratory-confirmed influenza among student hall residents for 5 months (9,10). The overall reduction in ILI or laboratory-confirmed influenza cases in the face mask group was not significant in either studies “

Masks have become the new Pink Pussy Hat for the Left. In the Socialist Republic of Vermont (where, thank God, my wife and I fled from in 2017) it is the new sign of Socialist conformity. In another week or so I expect to read how the mask vigilantes are assaulting people for not wearing one. And now for some satire on masks:

As someone that has worn a surgical style mask professionally for several decades and also part of the Bio-Hazard team of my hospital my view point of mask wearing annoys some folks. They have significant protective value IF handled properly.

CO2 buildup, your own germs will make you sicker and such BS is pure de hogwash. Decades of surgical and EMS use proves that fact jack. I don’t care what Fakebook Expert proves that masks are dangerous…. Not everything on the internet is truth?

N95’s are nice but for the bulk of social interactions not that much better than simple cloth or paper surgical style masks. One of the best descriptions I read was two little boys trying to pee on each other. If neither have a diaper they both get wet. If one has a diaper the other gets wet, If they BOTH have diapers nobody gets someone else’s pee on them.

So please wear a mask and keep your spittle to yourself friends. AND Wash your Hands!!!! Hands are the #1 vector of nasty bugs into your system.

But as Aesop says so well Gillian’s don’t grasp the value of not touching that dirty mask to pick their noses or rub their eyes so…. Gillian’s are also the folks that wear the same dirty pair of gloves all day long touching EVERYTHING including their Government approved surveillance-tracking device the cell phone and wonder why folks still get sick? SIGH.

Outside of the Operating room and handling chemicals I don’t wear gloves. I wash my hands often.

Somehow through several decades of dealing with H1N1, Avian Flu, Ebola, EVERY Years flu’s and now COVID19 I can work in a hot zone known as the hospital and not bring home nastiness to my home. Maybe it’s the procedure that I take off my shoes and clothing in the mudroom into the washing machine and take a shower before I hug my family?

Watch someone wearing a mask for a while. See how many times they touch that germ catcher THEN touch their eyes, nose, mouth, cell phone etc.. It’s HARD to train yourself not to do that with out thinking about it. An EASY training aid, buy a jalapenos pepper. Cut it open rub your finger tips in the white parts. We used that in the Army Medical schools to train folks. YOU will stop touching your eyes and such with your fingers after a session or two.

From the grey man viewpoint wearing one messes with easy facial recognition so I approve of it there. Making the enemy wonder if your trouble or not is also a grey man approved idea. Don’t bother if your going to wear a “I don’t call 911” Pistol shirt though.

Wearing the uniform of your enemy has been a guerillas most successful tactic for decades. It’s what’s in your heart and mind that counts not the “Obedience of the Mask”.

Wear it properly it works, decades, nay almost a century of medical evidence proves it’s value IF worn and disposed of properly.

Folks need to look up Mike and the Mechanic’s “Silent Running” and read them, a lot of useful thoughts there. Also before the Woodpile disappears someone needs to save Old Remus’s side bars about how our enemy works and thinks.

Readers here shouldn’t fly the BFYTW flag on this and thereby identify themselves to the self-appointed Mask Vigilantes.

It’s a game. Use their rules against them.

NY Oathkeeper even Mercola (a pretty decent site) has been proven wrong before and they are pretty good about admitting it. With all the misinformation and editing of reports to support one viewpoint or another I look to REAL LIFE ™ of decades and by now almost a century of mask use being very effective in preventing respiratory disease processes.

I’ll not bore you by showing a few dozen studies folks have shown me as PROOF they don’t work and I said BUT what about what they said HERE and HERE and HERE in the same report. Those reports tend to be several pages long and full of footnotes. Boring reading even for medical personnel.

Let’s NOT Look to Thailand that showed that a quick effective Mask and training program, hand washing and contact tracing eliminated COVID19 from their country in a month or so. Why should reality be confused with a report that I HAPPEN to Agree with?

When a infected person coughs the micron sized virus is not alone (the idiot chain link fence Mosquito story). It’s always incased in our MUCH Larger Spittle. That’s what stops the transmission the spittle is stopped by YOU wearing a Mask and any that sprays around the mask and floats about hopefully the other person wearing a mask properly. Plenty of that infectious spittle lands on surfaces to be touched by you. Your HANDS are the #1 way that disease gets into your mucus membranes like eyes, nose, mouth, and your genital’s (so was your paws before going to the bathroom folks). So please wash your hands.

Medical professionals who don’t want to bring something home to their families WEAR MASKS.

    • NC Scout July 19, 2020 at 18:00

The medical professionals I know (I know a lot) unanimously state it’s to protect your patient from you.

  8. Michael July 19, 2020 at 18:25

NC Scout would that fact you mentioned in your reply support the idea that Masks are effective friend? Masks worn by both protect the other person. To protect the wearer FROM someone else’s bugs requires a much better fitted mask and depending on the bug we are talking about additional protective gear. When I am working bio-hazard at the Hospital I am wearing a powered PAPA filter with full face and body covering suit, duct taped. Hot nasty work that requires trained help to put on, and decontaminate and take off after use.

But the discussion at hand is the protection of the general public from COVID19 and incidentally a whole lot of other seasonal diseases like the common flu.

    • NC Scout July 19, 2020 at 19:45

No, it doesn’t. It proves your last comments were wrong and you’re citing a CNA as your source.

Now be useful and explain the low mortality rate in Florida, which has the highest spike in positive tests.

  9. NY Oathkeeper July 19, 2020 at 20:04

    Michael,
If you read,i do believe the study shows some very strong evidence. My favorite quote is “A detailed study of the current data of all-cause mortality shows the all-cause mortality this past winter was no different, statistically, from previous decades. COVID-19 is not a killer disease, and this pandemic has not brought anything out of the ordinary in terms of death toll”Bottom line is each person to make their choice.
    Or what NC Scout said…

Regardless of efficacy of masks (which is very subjective), it should be a choice of the individual- we have liberty right? I personally have chosen to not wear a mask while at any public store since covid mania started. I’m relatively healthy, eat homegrown, no chronic illness, supplement my diet, and quite possibly already had ‘rona or something like it back in early Jan with zero symptoms since.
    Here’s the dilemma:
I go to home depot this morning for some sheetrock and a 2×6- there’s billboards all over saying masks are required and literally a 6’4” goon at the door enforcing it. Similar at walmart. If I wanna get in/out- I have to comply. Sucky when a simple errand has to turn into a politically motivated attack on my liberty. Will be interesting to see what happens when home depot goes from requiring a mask to requiring a vaccine passport to enter.

Prior to Covid one of the concerns of the prepper/conspiracy community was that facial recognition software that would deprive us of our anonymity when out and about. You’d think at least one person would see the mask wearing frenzy as a opportunity. For my part, any chance I get to conceal any aspect of my life from Big Brother is something I will take advantage of. Camouflage people. Learn to look innocuous and get out there and work some mischief.
