NC Scout on the Prepper Recon Podcast

I was on the Prepper Recon Podcast with Mark Goodwin. We discussed the budding insurgency that’s currently going on and steps you can take to be better prepared. We also wandered a bit into communications, discussing DMR, analog, why keeping it simple is best (especially when standing up a hasty neighborhood defense) and how to make best use of some of the license free older options, such as FRS and CB, in accomplishing that goal.

It was a heck of a lot of fun and mark is an incredible host. Stay frosty, because we’re just on the tip of this.

I was glad to hear you talk about canning. Canning the food you grow, and having plenty of jars, lids, rings, extra gaskets for your canner, etc. is very important. It’s very easy, cost efficient, and honestly not very time consuming to raise meat rabbits, process them, and can the meat.
Not to mention that canning your own food can be FUN and the product is usually healthier and far superior to the grocery store canned stuff!

      Absolutely brother!

Great poop. My intell is not as prolific as yours, however I have given a lot of thought as to how the next 4-6 months will likely evolve. I am in complete agreement with your prognostication.

Take a deep seat and a good hold as we got a rough time coming.

I like the 10m Export Radios, all mode AM/FM/USB/LSB/CW, expanded to operate in the 10,11,12M bands..
The ones I use right now are Magnum S9/350, Galaxy DX99V2, RCI 2950.. Variable transmitter power, from 1/2watt to Max, depending on the radio, up to 350watts.. New Galaxy and RCI radios use Mosfet finals, so they no longer require the fat high amperage cables, run cooler too.. And surface mount components so they are much tougher too..

I have run the 2950 on 12volt drycell race car battery, and a Wilson 5000 mag mount antenna, stuck to 10in circular saw blade for a ground plane, out of an ALICE pack.. Hiked to the top of one of ridges near home, (midway up the Olympic Peninsula), made solid AM contacts all the way down to Mt Hood in Oregon.. 220 miles direct, no skip! Elevation works wonders!

    • NC Scout August 27, 2020 at 15:45

      I like those too.

Thanks to N.C. Scout I am finally over my gun addiction.
It’s Optics and Radios hence forth.
FYI, you should see my bank account. Yikes bro.

    I ordered 6 UV-5Rs and 24 batteries.
I like my DM-1701s. They are very nice in the hand and intuitive to use with some training.
They feel like a Motorola clone of an old job site radio.
Need some batteries though, $25 a piece is gonna have to wait till next paycheck.

I’m gonna build a network for my area if shit gets wild.
You’d be pretty happy with what we got going on around here.
    It’s not a secret anymore what’s happening.
Everyday week someone calls me and is like “Dude… WTF over?”

    Great Podcast!

Try to never throw dates out there, but I not only believe you’re correct on their first major collective offensive, I believe it may be pre-election. Also believe some nefarious bastages are stockpiling for their evil deeds. These mother clumpers have already shown a willingness to throw explosives at the authorities, so it’s not a stretch when we know they are delivering weapons in uhauls right to the war zones. That said, we have more at hand than we realize.

About 8 years ago a group conversed online and it was suggested that card phones could be used for mobilization. Back then those minute phones were good for a year for which ever minutes put in them. Let’s say a large groups divided into groups of 10 for instance. On each of the 10 phones you have a pre-setup text for help to the other ten in your group. Kind of like a modern day minuteman system that bypasses the progressive channels.

Have you ever considered what your modern car is capable of? Many of them have early warning detection and avoidance and if necessary are capable of first strike capability! All those sensors they are stuffing in the bumpers and such are generally ultrasonic. They also have an output that depends on their input. Examples, lights progress to more lights and quicker screaming, or on sides in GMs they vibrate your butt on the side that that’s being approached. Point is you could either use the car itself, or divorce the sensors and build your own circuit. Will leave a link for it and a detector for IR that you can divorce from a motion detector, at the end of this write up. Let’s talk doppler.

Many cars now use either doppler radar or LIDAR for collision avoidance. I will assure you that the doppler is seeing things long before the car automates the braking system. As luck would have it I found a write up about using microcontrollers to utilize these radar systems. Ever wonder why your radar detector became overly excited about 6 years ago? That’s why. They operate in the same bands as the police radar, as does your DISH system. Typically, X and K bands. BTW, Scout mentioned LLL, who build the Range-R detector. It utilizes several dopplers that interpolate the returns to catch motion inside a structure. So far the authorities have them, but the progressives may get around to it. Your now rendered useless radar detector, should detect it, and hey seeing how there’s nothing on DISH anyway and the transceiver/antenna is tuned to it, you may want to send out a little fun of your own. Any programmers on this site? For that matter, that 1,000 watt microwave radar you’ve been heating dinner in at 2.4mHz. If placed in a foil lined tupperware as a parabolic director may have some effect for something. Of course it may melt the foil right out of it, not sure yet.

Now about that automotive first strike…it was sitting between your hands the whole time. Get the containment portion out of the way, and well you have a fairly powerful weapon with a small alteration. Doesn’t even need to be in a container to be fast or powerful, right? They can be harvested out of everything from 91 forward and from drivers’ and passengers sides after about 96ish. Like I said, right at hand.

This things about to go kinetic gang, and a little redneck engineering will really change the dynamics of asymmetrical warfare. As Scout pointed out, these parasites are getting help from several nefarious sources. Collectively they aren’t dumb. They will employ these things on you, so at least consider the things that are at hand, even if you don’t consider these few I’ve outlined. PS steal this stuff out of that commies car down the street, they owe you anyway!

Very important! I haven’t tried these particular things yet, and in most cases would have just used them on the fly. Normally, I would never forward something untried, but time is of the essence now. Be careful, especially with the airbags! It would surprise you just how nonchalant we handled them in shops.

    • GK August 28, 2020 at 11:00

Where it says 2.4mHz; it should read 2.4gHz. It could be a great drone killer ;))

    • Johnny Paratrooper August 28, 2020 at 17:20

If I see a drone, I’m gonna blast it outta the sky with my AR.
I go to the Skeet Range more than any other type of shooting.
Moving targets are great training, and you meet some high class people. It’s like golf for gun guys.
Very good place to meet affluent, conservative people. And earn money mowing lawns and painting houses to fuel your firearm addiction.

In fact, and I know I sound like a butt-head sometimes, but one of my regular shooting buddies is a national champion. He is also a former marine. I have only topped his score once. He is very, very good. He uses .410 and I use 12 and he still whomps me every time. Usually by 3-4 points. I’m gonna have to plan a trip there next weekend.

Thanks for reminding me about that.

      • GK August 29, 2020 at 15:04

Butt-head? How so? It’s time we start putting our sensibilities to the side and start sharing info, no matter how obscure. It’s becoming obvious that you have been around military specialists…I’ve had only minimal exposure to that, but I do have stories that pertain. In fact, I’ve met 2 SEALs and one Scout Sniper. All three I liked, and all three, someone other had to tell me what they were. All very calm and all very knowledgeable. BTW, I live right by Hanford, so there have been many military flash through my existence. Until I was 6, I lived right across the Umatilla River from the Army Depot, and that was Vietnam era, so because the bombing range was right over the hill by Boardman, I got to watch real time dogfight practice. More important, many military in my bringing up.

The first SEAL; He was father to guys I went to school with and of course he brought his car to us for repair. One day he sees me building a quick pulse generator, and started talking to me. Before it was over he introduced me to wave soldering and some other stuff. Have never wave soldered, but have tried much of his other easy solutions, and be damned if they didn’t all work. So Scott (his son) stopped by one day and we talked. Turns out his dad was a vietnam SEAL, that if they were captured the guys would have protected him, and I quote; “he can make radios out of lemons and shit.” That was huge missed opportunity!

Years ago I had occasion to run with a few different hunting groups. Oh yeah we were real jungle rebels-Not! I’m not a real blood thirst animal killer, and used to shoot fairly well, so I did over watch. Plus, I love just watching and learning, exactly as Scout pointed out in this very podcast. So, we were hunting in the Clokum and the canyons to the river are, well, huge. My call sign was always viper. Keep in mind, this is 30 years ago. The night before our first morning hunt, they were telling each other our call signs. The newbies were picking theirs. Someone said, “Greg is Viper, it rhymes with sniper, it’s fitting.” Then someone else said, “one thing’s for sure, he only kills when he’s hungry or threatened.” Have considered a tat with that in Latin ever since. Anyway that particular fella, while everyone else was laughing their asses off, just got a wry smile.

The next morning before light I snuck into my slot. Usually, my first task was to get the individuals headed where they really wanted to go via radio. As I was doing that, he come from behind me (how he found me I will never know, no one else could) and sat down and asked, “Where do you want me?” The question puzzled me, so of course I through out a dumb joke, you know, like the F18 thing. However I remember what I told him next ( have said it so many times it’s not hard to remember). “I don’t get the same thrill killing animals that these guys do, but if a trophy walks out in front of me, I’ll dump it. My main task is to finish the job, if they don’t get a good hit with their first shot. When the animals carry guns and declare me an enemy combatant, that may change. Besides, I learn way more just watching.” Now light was just breaking and I pointed to the other side of the canyon and said, “see there, those deer right in an open spot, but perfectly safe, because anyone on their side will never get to them.” That enlisted the second wry smile. This is no joke, this cat may have spoke a total of 15 sentences the whole weekend. Normally, I’m quite, but about 3 shots of loudmouth and watch out!

The next night my homey said, “his friend said I could be his glasser any day. He also had trouble finding you.” To which I said, “nobody finds me, I’m losing my touch.” My homey then said, “he can find anyone, he’s a USMC Scout Sniper.” Jonny P, you ever get that pit of the stomach feeling for almost no reason? Things all fell into place. The guy could talk distances correctly, which is unheard of with the weekend warrior of 30 years ago. I should have sniffed it out! Point is, I liked the guy and it was a huge missed opportunity!!!

Am finishing where I started…you military guys are invaluable right now. If you have knowledge, share, or as you eloquently put it, “be a butt-head” if it helps the order.

    Great info,Thanks.
Have you,or anyone here done any info on plates and carriers?

    • Johnny Paratrooper August 28, 2020 at 17:10

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WXL8q5UOqQ

He shoots this plate with an armor piercing 30-06. Which is pretty amazing because he is standing right on top of this thing.
I also have some curved AR500 plates, and I added Yogamat to the back of them for comfort. You dont have to worry about impact protection. You can take ALOT of punishment while you are wearing a vest. There are dozens of videos of people shooting each other on youtube and they barely even feel it. In fact, they mostly laugh and fake the effects for the views.

I have RMA plates and a bunch of Condor Tactical Carriers. There are much better carriers out there. But I don’t mind the Condor, it’s light and effective. I added some Yoga Mat foam to the shoulder pads. This has two effects. One, it makes the straps and shoulders a little more comfortable. And two, it raise the plate just a little higher. As for the “cumberbund”, I laced the back of it with 550 cord through the molle to make it “Stay” in place. Works great.

The thing with plate carriers is they can get real heavy, really quick. So if you are an older gentlemen, you might look for the lightest weight stuff available. This will prevent you from tearing your ACL or MCL. Or worse. Which would be significantly more expensive than some of these high tech lightweight plates.
It was a 1 month wait on the RMA plates for 4 of them.

Armor can have the effect of making your feel invincible. This isn’t true. No-one is gonna aim for your armor. You need to fight like you aren’t wearing anything. Fight like a naked mental patient.

Those lightweight Chinese plates on eBay are very, very effective. We bought 5 and tested one. There is no need to double up like we expected. They will stop a couple 5.56 M855 and and M193 rounds at 35ish yards. The plate stopped 5 rounds before we had a slight penetration. After that the plate was cracked and shredded.

I read an article once that Chinese Infantry soldiers “only” carries $1,700 of gear, relative to the U.S. soldier’s $30,000 in gear.
That’s because Washington is a bunch of thieves. That Chinese stuff works JUUUUUST fine. And is lighter weight.

I hope this helps. Also, You should be as worried as I am. That Chinese gear is good stuff.

RMA makes good stuff. And it’s 100% made in the U.S.A.. Good luck in New York.
You have an Enemy Command Base with 10,000,000 people down the street from you.

    Scout
    Great info! Good presentation.
    Thank you.

  12. vyt1az August 29, 2020 at 22:11

This was your best interview so far I think. A lot of great info in there.

I second the Altama Maritime Assault boots. I’ve been a fan of either minimalist footwear or going barefoot for well over a decade because it keeps your feet and ankles strong. I looked high and low and none of the dedicated “minimalist” boots had drain holes which was a non-starter for me after you explained the need for them back when I took your RTO course.

Funny enough I found the Altamas a while back and couldn’t be happier.

    1. They blend in with normal clothes since they look like chucks as you mentioned.
    2. They drain / dry extremely fast.
    3. They’re also flexible and quiet enough that I can be almost as quiet in those as in minimalist running shoes like Merrell Barefoots.
    4. I’ve had zero blisters breaking them in on multi-mile walks.
    5. They’re only $90 regularly and go on sale for $75-80 at various retailers quite often.
