D&L Precision AR10 Review, by Coyyote

Had planned on acquiring an AR 10 in mid to late 2021, however the present events changed my time table considerably. Had my good friend Dave Lauck put together a precision AR 10 with rails for a PVS 30 and IR illumination.  Topped it with a Night Force NXS 3.5-15 second focal plane scope.
Test firing by Dave showed it reliably functioned with M118LR and produced groups at 100 yards of under 0.5 MOA – 0.35” for a 3 round group to be exact. Precision shooters would tout any bolt gun with this accuracy, but to see this degree of accuracy in a semi auto carbine is phenomenal to say the least!
Dave Lauck is the owner of D&L Sports, Inc., custom builder of several of the finest weapons found anywhere in the world and is recognized as the foremost expert on the 1911 platform. He has built custom 1911s for a long list of celebrities as well as President Donald Trump and was awarded “Pistolsmith of the Year” by American Pistolsmiths Guild in 2012. His AR-15 carbines have frequently been used among top-tier competitors and his sniper weapon system, the MR-30, was featured as the Black King Rifle in the TV Series Shooter.

Nice looking rifle! Is that a cocking knob I see on the bolt carrier? If so, I’m curious for the reasoning. Any tips on PVS-30 mounting are appreciated as well.

With larger scopes the ocular is often in the way of operating the charging handle easily and quickly. Also I am a left hand shooter and in a prone position I can charge the bolt using the charging handle on the bolt without unduly raising up from my natural point of aim, IF it is ever necessary to do so. Lastly if you get wounded in one arm you can operate the bolt by holding the rifle upright, butt on the ground and “kick start” the bolt with your foot.

I have had some issues with the PVS-30 holding well on the accessory picatinny rails. So I put a 1/8″ washer or buffer between the hand guard and the picatinny plate when mounting the plate. If you select a longer mounting screw be careful you do not impinge on the gas tube, etc.

Other than that I have a low mounted scope that aligns well with the PVS 30 ocular, place the ocular about 1/4″ from the scope objective and I do use a neoprene wrap connecting the scope and PVS 30 to keep out stray light. I have read lots of people do fine without the wrap especially on moonless nights. Lastly I also mount a good IR light on the both rifles.

This is the setup for the AR 10 which is my overwatch rifle. On my recon stye carbine I tend to use helmet mounted NODS and have an IR laser on the carbine which is easy to see looking over the top of the carbine optic. The following article may help also.

Makes good sense, I might have to look into getting a new BCG… Thanks for the reply.

Get it now Bro. If the administrations changes despite the best efforts of all you can bet a ASW ban will be quick to come.
