Has anyone run one of these? The power requirement is a little sketchy as it says 12v but he says it pulls many amps in the video. Does that mean it will run of 115v 15 amp house current or will it need a larger power feed I wonder. Very cool unit though for $125!

From what I can find out they draw about 9 amp on start up and then about 1 amp after that. So a 15 amp breaker would be well large enough if you have a 12 volt power supply that will run it (9×12 is 108 watts, which is pretty low, there are many 10 amp cheap power supplies on the market too, though that isn’t much wiggle room). I am rather fond of my kerosene heaters and they likely get a little better efficiency (99.9), since they aren’t venting to the outside. Way less complicated, though you do have to know how to run them (90 percent alcohol a tad to absorb any moisture in the fuel, otherwise the wick will get water logged and smoke badly, etc. probably this is 90 percent or more the problems people have with them) and stock a supply of extra wicks.
If I really wanted to use something that had to vent to the outside, I think I might look into some of the army heaters that would burn about anything. They made an adapter for the tent heaters as well the old trash can / drum heaters for heating dish water, which also can double as a space heater. Have some of each, though have as yet not been able to try them. Would like to use the water drum heaters to see if I can get a hog scalded with. Certainly many other uses I can think of for them too. Kind of hard to find them water heaters these days last I looked (especially at a good price), but the tent adapters last I looked were still a pretty good price, which come in a kit (preferably) and being way smaller than the water heaters, are much easier on the money to ship too.

WTH is gayriage? Or Alyoo-inimum? I suppose it’s wrong to argue with an English guy about English. I’d ask about how this works in an RV, but that might automatically dispatch a swat team and Hurt Locker guy. Could work pretty well in the wall tent and save getting up three times to stoke the woodburner enough to keep the water bottles thawed. :)
