VIDEO: Modern Warfare Institute’s John Spencer on Urban Warfare

This is a great video I stumbled across and is well worth your time. If you are interested in contemporary urban conflict, I suggest “Out of the Mountains” by David Kilcullen and “Gangster Warlords” by Ioan Grillo. These books overlap and were incredibly informative.

Before I watch this, I wanted to comment, there is a great video by a Green Beret(Foxtrot Probably) and he gives an hour long speech on urban warfare analysis, google, and the introduction of “off the shelf” technologies to the battlefield in Syria, and how it’s used.
The speech is from like 2014-15 or so. Right before ISIS because I don’t think he mentions ISIS in the video.

I don’t suppose you have a link to that video you could share with us?

        Sorry about that.
I meant to add that I really enjoyed that video, But cannot find it anywhere.
It was about all kinds of stuff. Like narrow armored technicals that can drive down ancient roman streets.
And using Xbox systems to make Remote weapons.
And how the Syrian rebels are using google maps as geospatial tools to drop drone bombs on pill boxes and down chimneys.

Hello, do you remember the name? I’ve found foxtrot alpha, many videos. But I am unsure.
          Thank you

    Random observations:
@17:05 the use of the phrase “under governed city” to describe a feral city might be of some concern to those of us who fear the development of over-governed cities as the new normal.
@27:16 “When the time comes I’m going to assume……” is reminiscent of the Patriot/militia mentality of SHTF. The idea is that when the situation presents itself it will subsequently resolve itself in some way. Both suggest that the thing to do now is prepare. Action will come later. I’m not a believer in some future SHTF scenario. My fear is that we will slowly, gradually descend into a comfortable tyranny and no one will ever rise up.

A lot of work was put into the presentation. However, I couldn’t finish it. The presenter has constant splurges of word dumps. It is sometimes hard to cipher his words. His mind is ahead of his words… they need to be slowed down and synced better so that the audience doesn’t spend a large portion of what should be easy listening but turns out to be having to backtrack to try to figure out what was said. Very annoying to say the least. Pace, timing, and vocal delivery need to be worked on. Awesome person and I totally respect the military BUT the communication is worthless to me. I have no tolerance to finish the video.

Wow. Complaining about something you put nothing into.

In regards to your comment about the presentation, when I was little I didn’t like turnips. I knew that if I wanted to get a piece of fried chicken, and maybe a piece of pie afterwards, that I had to eat the turnips anyway. I didn’t tell Mama that I wasn’t going to eat the meal because of the turnips, and I didn’t complain about them, I just ate them along with the foods I liked and was grateful to have a good homecooked meal. I also didn’t tell her that the meal needed work because I didn’t like the turnips.

I was glad to see the video, and it might be very relevant for a lot of people really soon.
