In Memoriam of Rush Limbaugh

Rush Limbaugh, radio and conservative legend, has died.
Rush needs no introduction. There has not been a larger contemporary voice in conservatism, bar none, over my own lifetime. Often drawing heat from all sides, Rush had a particular brand of ridicule of the Left, and sometimes Republicans, which flawlessly highlighted the idiocy of their point of view while conveying to the world just what was on the mind of the mainstream American. While not always perfect, he understood exactly what was on the mind of Americans often left bewildered by the failures of politics.
It is an easy statement to say that websites like this one, our particular brand, would not have been made possible without his influence. Rush made conservatism mainstream and with it, talk radio. There would be no conservative talk radio much less podcasts. But the ease and precision by which he was able to deliver an argument and content made it look easy, inspiring untold thousands to give it a crack themselves, this author included.
With a heavy heart, Rush, we wish you a farewell. In your dying days, still on the radio, you spoke words of staunch encouragement, leading by example, to those committed to the greatness of this Nation to never, ever give in. Never back down. And never give up.

A sad, sad day. I don’t listen to a lot of talk radio, but I enjoyed listening to Rush. He had a way of helping me see the lighter side of things and would brighten my day. Rest in Peace Rush and God bless. You’ve earned it.

I admire how Rush worked ’till the end. Rest in peace. I wouldn’t mind seeing Mark Steyn, Rush’s occasional fill-in, take up the torch. He offers some especially trenchant commentary that I’ve really enjoyed. And he has a pleasant accent.

    • NC Scout February 17, 2021 at 15:33

I had often wondered who’s take up the torch. mark would be a natural fit, at least in my opinion. His dry sense of humor is perfect.

The local media conglomerate here put up a written notice this afternoon. Its thrust was that all Rush’s shows are archived, and that his producers would be selecting segments from his past shows, geared to the news of the day. The usual guest hosts would be intro-ing these segments. The current intention is to keep it a three-hour show M-F, and to keep on with the Morning Update and Week in Review.
That is a good intention, in my opinion.

    Hail & Farewell Rush
    we are diminished.
    We will prevail.

I had listened to Rush for over 30 years and found him to be the most intelligent man that I’ve ever heard when it came to political analysis. I will miss him.
    Rest In Peace Rush, Godspeed.

By Rush, was nice to hear from you even if I didn’t always agree, you presented issues very well and at times with a great sense of humor, will be a tough path to follow but hope there are folks out there who can at least do your views justice in the future.
I read another article that mentioned the death of Rush along with the recent death of Walter Williams(loved his writings) and Charlie Daniels(liked some of the music especially “In America”),the country has lost some great voices to be sure.
Hopefully they are all having a drink on the other side laughing at human folly!

I think you read that note on WRSA. It was mine, and I wrote it because of some deep feelings I’ve had over the past few months. In a nutshell, I could not totally let go of the USA ideal and fully embrace the FUSA reality while those men lived. When alive, the concept of America had to still breathe. With them gone, I can now reconcile that we are in Another Country. FWIW, I’m also glad that Jeff Cooper did not live to see this day. It would have made no sense to him.
      Keep your powder dry,

Atlas, was WRSA,so,will say once e-mailed Mr. Williams to thank him for his writings and sent along a funny story of my travels once and said I owed him at least one story,he e-mailed back his thanks for sharing, tis one of the few e-mails will save forever!

        • Atlas Shrug February 18, 2021 at 14:08

That’s a nice anecdote there, James. Thanks for sharing it.
To tie things together a bit, the Rush guest host that I used to look forward to the most was Walter Williams. He was far from the most professional or smooth host (Tony Snow probably was), but he was the one who spoke the rawest, most quintessential truths. He could cut down to the intellectual core of an issue – but do so in the most basic and down to earth terms, often highlighting a personal experience from his past as the illustrative vehicle. And ALWAYS speaking the truth about how economics and human behavior are inseparable – something lost on far too many.
You are right to save that email. Williams was a gem. I’m sure he and Rush are sharing some good stories now. I’d like to think that one of them might be the one you shared with Dr. Williams.
Good memories. God Bless them both.

A sad say. Even though we knew it was coming. If you don’t want the veins in your neck exploding try and avoid what the Libtards and Hollywood elites are tweeting. Civility is dead.

Eh, they’re fiddling while Rome burns. Fuck em.

  9. Juri February 17, 2021 at 17:00

This how civilizations are collapsing. Even the best and brightest can`t understand nothing until the bitter end.
This happened before. 1917 Russia was full of God believing WW I experienced gun owners. But they lost to communist freaks and weirdos.
The difference between special forcer served gun owner and sexual perverted communist is that one knows how to win a battle and the another knows how to win a war.
This why guerilla war is pre lost. Ilan Omar and AOC commanded forces finish off every last resistance like never gun owned Stalin put the pathetic end of the Waffen SS trained volunteers resistance , known as forest brothers or green army in Eastern Europe.
Government always wins. Now the question is who is the Government ? You or the enemy ?
Rush talked US to full communism. This is his only legacy. Like our intellectuals only legacy back in the 19th century was putting Lenin and Stalin in charge.

Without Rush, I’d probably have ended up a liberal. Without him, and the other local talk radio hosts, who I grew up listening to in my parents car, or in the hanger while my grandpa and his friends worked on planes, I’d have been a liberal like most of my other friends. I’d never have gained the love for radio that I learned from Rush’s own story about falling in love with the technology, and I’d certainly have never ended up here. RIP Rush, thanks for never giving up the fight, thanks for not turning on us after the 6th like so many did, now go return that talent you had on loan from God. He will be dearly missed.

I listened to RL since 2001. I quit listening Nov 4 2021. Not because i was upset with him; we disagreed time to time but because I wanted to hear more chatter from the back channels. I wanted to hear about stolen elections and what will ultimately happen to those accountable. But that time never came to pass. And on Jan 6 the Deplorable’s walked right into a trap. Sounds like that poor Babbitt girl was murdered by a BLM sympathizing Cap Police Officer. His name is David Bailey.
There’s only two ways out of this fellers. First option is a 3rd party kicks off. For this to work DT and family must stay on the sidelines. We have to win elections by unspeakable margins gathering support from many on the left. DT’s platform will do nicely. He was able to pick up support from all walks of life without pandering to them. But after seeing the outcome/theft/fraud this election we need tons more. This is the best way and the only way America can survive as America.
The other option is eventually enough people lose their shit so badly they get violent. They work to turn this land into chaos which spirals out of control. A true CW with no distinguishable sides erupts. I don’t want to see this and aside from some of you fellers I am probably one of the best people to adjust to it. But I don’t want it as I doubt most of you do. Still even this option is favorable to enslavement. And that’s probably the road we’re on now.
God Bless Rush gonna miss him. It’s probably better he checked out now. One year ago today America never had a brighter future. All different peoples from different walks of life were living the American Dream. The economic engine was bulletproof. Shortly after the trade war was won against the Chinese the little virus because a huge factor. Still even that and the riots weren’t enough to defeat PDT. The scary thing about what ultimately dislodged our Pres is the audacity in the manner of which it was accomplished.

30 something years ago a church friend turned me on to Rush. After listening to him that day I was hooked. Rush changed my thinking, the way I thought about things and demonstrated how to escape the bounds of “what I thought I knew.”
Without Rush’s influence I probably wouldn’t be in the basket of deplorables today.
I still have several of his ties that he sold back in the day…recently wore one to a friend’s funeral.

Some fires start with sparks and others spontainiously with heat. Rush started a movement using both.

I remember the first time I heard Rush. It was 1989. I was a young agent of the U.S. Border Patrol patrolling the area between Yuma, AZ and El Centro, CA. I was running through the dial on my AM radio. I usually stopped on a Mexican station to bone up on my Spanish. I heard a booming voice and liked what he was talking about. I always looked forward to the 8a to 4p shift so I could listen to Rush. He will be missed. He pegged politics from the beginning. Now it’s like we’ve lost that old paternal voice giving us guidance.

At 72, I have listened to Rush for over 30yrs. Each week I business traveled and searched for something interesting to keep me awake. Stumbled into Rush. What Rush spoke of was very often what I was thinking. He was like a brother, mentor, a teacher as I worked & traveled. From callers like children to retired, he was so gracious. He became the family relative after I got married a million years ago. Wife loved his logic too.
Rush crystallized my thinking from the late 1960’s. Long before Jane Fonda appeared in North Viet-Nam, the media was trashing us GI’s with the sickest of lies. Rush loved all the GI’s of any theater and gave endless love for America and its potential. It was the America we all loved and knew. Never what the sick media said. The dummy’s in Rio Linda couldn’t take it. Even in the bleakest of socialist assaults, he continued with the message that the best is ahead for America. Damn… I LOVED every word of that.
Rush was the Fleet Flagship of Conservatism. He took the arrows for how he taught us what Liberalism was destroying. If one doubted his comments, research it. I found him as correct as sunrise prediction. He said often how he failed at conveying how destructive the Left was. No he did not. It is just some humans are too damn stupid to know how stupid they are and thus cannot be helped.
Wife and I , and many neighbors, felt a huge loss when Katherine opened the EIB show. Damn, I nearly cried. So did my wife. Our brother of immense intellect was gone. He kept educating us until the last of his energy. What an inspirational American.
I sincerely hope that Mark Steyn picks up the EIB microphone. With 15 years of “undocumented host” filling in for Rush, Mark Steyn is my first choice. Steyn has a talent for slicing the Leftists/Socialist/Communist Borg down to microbe size with a delicious and immensely gratifying, talent & speed.
No. No one can possibly replace Rush. Yet, Steyn will be needed during this period of Wash, DC occupation. The installed regime is surely making the graves of the Founding Father’s and of those that have defended America, rumble with anger.
It is such an honor to be in the “Deplorable” category as a Trumper. Soooooo great compared to being a “Despicable” of the disgusting MSM mob that is gloating over the passing of Rush.
Salute to all my fellow Patriots and a HUGE salute to Rush.
