Michael Yon Dispatches: Iraq and Hong Kong Analysis

Rock, paper, scissors?
“ARMY.” is the answer according to Michael Yon.
Michael is right.

From the Article “Jungle Law”

The Yarmuk traffic circle is fantastically dangerous. On the first mission I ran in Mosul, we lost two soldiers and an interpreter, all killed by a car bomb. Others were horribly burned, scarred for life. Many of our wounded and killed soldiers got it right here, or in the immediate vicinity. The ISF takes serious losses in this part of town. But it’s not entirely one-sided–the Deuce Four has killed well over 150 terrorists in this neighborhood in the past 10 months. But almost none of those made the news, and those that did had a few key details missing.

My Take? Be aggressive, be smart, be violent.

They are always watching, learning, waiting.

Several of my leaders in the Army were veterans of Mosul.

Pay very, very close attention to these articles.

The next article highlights a different kind of fight.

Both are very real. Very dangerous. And very well known by all sides.

From the article “Hong Kong Echoes: “Organization Structure Dictates Outcome””

Only one country can instantly go Full Dracula and Authoritarian more than China. That is United States. Washington, D.C. feels far more intense and dangerous to me than Hong Kong, and Hong Kong is now completely taken by China.
Big concern: the authoritarianism we see being facilitated by big tech and others is shortsighted, at best. As authoritarianism grows, eventually the people with armies will take the people with computers. In the Law of the Jungle, Carnivores do Carnivore stuff.

My take? You can’t fight carnivores with a carnival.

I am book marking Michael Yon’s site. You should too…

Read an article a day. And you will have more know how, tools, and understanding than the average soldier in any military.

Thank you for the link Johnny Paratrooper. Rummaged about some there. Any suggestions on best, organized approach/search words?

I would start with the beginning of the Iraq War. I missed his work from then because I was just a punk teenage kid from Baltimore worried about cars and chasing private school coeds. Really excellent stuff and he is a great writer.

I think Bracken has this linked too on his Gab. Gonna read it and save link. Here’s another one MB has linked I have already read https://www.bigcountryexpat.com/2609-2/
That’s good shit there. I found a range with some pros. Gonna get my ass in gear and go learn from them. Particularly on the red dot zeroing we discussed the other day.

Excellent. Take all orders from the range safety and fire control officer. They are there to help you. It is part of the creed of their mission statement. And has been for some time. Centuries if you examine certain groups. They are there to help you.

        Howdy JP,
I can be as dense as anyone, but I’m having trouble finding practical take-aways from Yon’s Iraq work. It is interesting but I don’t think entertainment is what we’re after. I don’t see how it applies to our upcoming hootinanny as it relates to FreeFor.
IEDs, VBIEDs, RPGs, Belt feds, buried arty rounds, literally anything the Coalition troops used, rode in, drove, or their TTPs? Not in any scenario I see in my time zone. Ping me what your compass says and help me out with a direction, because I’m sure as hell not planning to re-fight the GWOT.

        • Johnny Paratrooper February 27, 2021 at 20:36

If our government goes completely tyrannical they will use the same tactics against free Americans.
Which include “sniper bait” operations. That, quite frankly, are diabolically intelligent in my opinion.
If the Chinese, or any other foreign troops are invited in, they will copy tactics they have used in other nations and what they learned from their force on force studies, and military ambassador exchanges in Iraq and Afghanistan.
It’s no accident that GWOT is defined by actions in the Megacity of Baghdad, small villages, cities, and townships in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the ultra-rural “Hunter Gatherer Agrarian” societies of Afghanistan.
We should learn lessons from both sides, and keep them in our tactical toolkit. JIC.
Hope this answers your questions. Ping back if you have any followups.
FWIW, I don’t want to see GWOT either. The thought of stomach diseases, scurvy, and malaria make me queasy just thinking about it.

          • Johnny Paratrooper February 27, 2021 at 20:40

For the record, N.C. Scout believes (knows) that they are using the same tactics to identify key leaders that he saw used in various parts of the Middle East and North Africa. Likely, Hong Kong was the same type of Operation used by the Chinese against the Hong Kong citizens. I, myself, saw the same stuff from the perspective of a foot soldier relative to GWOT and Hong Kong.
Watch Millie Weaver’s Shadowgate 1 and 2 to understand exactly how powerful Internet tools have become. And listen to the conversations concerning traitorous generals who have sold this tech to everyone with a penny and a pocket.
Nothing is an accident. Nothing. These people have computers that tell them the moves to make and the people to take.

I have often wondered after witnessing 2020 how our govt will lay down the law should they go “full tyrannical.” I don’t think the proverbial “door kickers” are much different than you in me but that is only a guess. The major redline is the rifles/mags. At least that’s where it starts. Most likely they won’t send in door kickers (American) as that could backfire on them badly. They will either try and use regular citizens to tattletale and then freeze bank accounts, credit cards, etc. UNLESS they use mercenaries (mostly foreign) or they bring the Red Army here who will have no qualms about it.
It really comes down to the economy in my opinion. If it gets rolling and people are content they will be less likely to resist a demand to turnover rifles. If hyperinflation creeps in and unemployment goes to shit no govt buy back will comfort citizens en masse. If we give up our rifles we have already lost. I have good friends with families who are confused as to what they would do if faced with the loss of their job/money or comply. It’s going to be an interesting conundrum I suspect. I fully suspect we will get to see how it plays out sir.
IMO The tyrants are scared of you guys they trained to fight oppressive governments and sent around the world to do so. lol tho I have not learned to zero my rifles I am still somewhat of a hard ass; at least that’s what i tell myself. Love you guys for the education and updates. I stay off any mainstream news even it it so called conservative. I like the back channels. Trying to live a normal life while flying under the radar. I understand that may not be possible in the future.

They have brought in 63 million “immigrants” since 1965. They don’t really need “foreign” troops as they already have citizens, with full rights(like the 2A) who don’t really like us. Why don’t they like us? My primary experience is “I didn’t get invited to the sorority party with pretty rich white girls” ergo “Destroy all white men”. At least, that’s my two cents. But you are right. We have a serious problem.
The future holds a lot of pain, misery, stress and confusion for the guerrilla. The life of a partisan isn’t easy. It’s lonely, inglorious, and fraught with trouble. Both before, during, and after the troubles.

Other than the blacks JP I don’t think so. And when I say black I don’t mean the Africans, Haitians, Jamaicans, Bahamians, etc. Only the ones who were born here. The Hispanics have turned around quite a bit in the last 4 years. I know people from all these groups and most are not willing to kill. Shit a lot of them supported DT which means their eyes had been pried open. Hell even a lot of black born citizens did. That is why this election made no sense.
These leftists white assholes are the worst but I’m guessing you know that. And it is they who will continue to turn the screws of hate. To create higher levels of animosity within our populace to distract from their own misdeeds. Unfortunately it will work but I am done giving a fuck about people who still live in these places where harm likely follows. I got so damn mad last summer and it did me absolutely no good. I won’t waste anymore time on assholes or idiots.

          • Johnny Paratrooper February 28, 2021 at 08:10

I agree. The black and Latin folks still have some vestiges of their christian identity. They also have some pretty strong families and communities. The whites in this country, namely just outside and inside major cities, are not friendly people whatsoever. I avoid them at all costs.

          • Matt Bracken February 28, 2021 at 07:04

The Mosul “sniper bait” operation described in Jungle Law was on target. I’d expect to see it employed by all sides (more than 2 for sure) in any CW2 scenarios. Yon rightly points out that it won’t just be the uniformed military, but cartels and other gangs will be players.

          • Johnny Paratrooper February 28, 2021 at 08:08

For sure. The small “settlements” in Maryland of latin people are run by the cartels. Just like the colonies of islam are run by the mosque. This is our life now. Forever.

Good article. Brought back some memories, That traffic circle sounded a lot like some places we used to frequent. The Checkpoint 59 alpha area just south of Anaconda (Balad) was always a bad spot. Got ambushed a lot there. Another bad spot was ASR Sword coming off of ASR Vernon headed west. We got hit there almost every mission in the Summer of ’06. Later in about ’08, we’d go through down town Fallujah on some nights, right over the bridge where they hung the Blackwater guys in ’04. Always a bit spooky and would make the hair on my arms stand up. Went through in the we hours on the way from TQ to BIAP and I don’t think I ever saw person moving through there.

    • Johnny Paratrooper February 28, 2021 at 12:19

Yeah. Some spots are particularly bad. MSR Tampa, Route Arrows, and Route Predators were also pretty terrible. I was only on Tampa a few times. I drove down Route Arrows and Predators 1,000 times. Apparently over 400 U.S. soldiers lost their lives on Predators and Arrows. At least, that’s what I was told.
