120v 3-prong extension cord, at least 25-ft., tools, breaker bar with 5ft. cheater-pipe, sockets, extensions for those dual tires, (2.5-ton/5-ton 6×6 for example), air chuck & 20+feet of hose w/glad-hand connector, tire air gauge, radiator stop-leak, spare radiator cap, radiator hoses with anti-freeze, assorted spare clamps, nuts and bolts. A hand drill and pop rivet gun comes in handy with some “duck” tape, and JB-Weld, for quick fixes. Changing a “U”-Joint on your tailgate with a 3-lb. hammer and a socket in the middle of nowhere is a lot of fun, (helps to carry a spare). Got an old 4×4? Electronic computer spark control boxes can leave you high and dry, but on some older 4×4’s a spare behind the seat might save your bacon, or those starter solenoids, and alternator diodes frying, got spares? How about those battery terminals, clean and greased? A 12-ton hydraulic jack comes in handy, as does a “Come-Along” with tow straps and hooks. Front axle seal on my 6×6 was leaking, but a few gallons of 90wt. with a bottle fitting hand pump kept it going. JB-Weld fix a cracked block on my 84′ diesel V8 4×4. Aluminum radiator powder fixed my 63′ truck radiator in a pinch, my other old 74′ 4×4 blew computers and “U” Joints on a regular basis. Knowing your vehicle and having a manual helps, as does two spare tires. All things, parts & tools are vehicle specific.

I would add a length of hose for siphoning, steel fuel can(s), zip ties, hose clamps, hose/duct repair tape

Drive something old enough that you can work on. 73-92 Chevy/GMC trucks come to mind as most of the parts will cross over even with different years. Any GM truck with a LS engine up until 05-06 if you want fuel injection and no onstar BS. Also, if you dont know the history of the transmission fluids leave them be as fresh fluid/filter change can leave you stranded. Real world…
Under pissed on Marx sticker, a pair of bright white balls hanging on hitch…..stitch a small wig on sack for maximum mileage.

I’m doing a Raptor Lining on my whole truck exterior. Got so many scratches on the paint last hunting trip to the mountains in AZ, it makes more sense. Thinking woodland green. Adds more protection to the body and easily repaired.

I knew a guy with a K5 done like that. Sweet truck.

I think the black or the dark grey is great. Plus it absorbs the dust in your area, and creates its own camouflage as you drive down the trail. It cleans up pretty well with the exception of red clay. Which will stain the coating. Make sure you have it professionally done. It also makes your vehicle a bit more dent proof. I saw a Jeep club in PA and each member has to get a two tone black on X color pattern. The black and lime green looked cool. But the black and red or black and blue was likely a more friendly color pattern.

Spare Fan & Alternator Belts, some old trucks have two or more in different sizes, and some need a long tool/pry-bar for leverage to tighten them. A 12v to 110v power inverter, (some have USB Ports), and a cigarette lighter plugin 12v charger w/cable for cell phones & tablets, along w/solar powered battery banks. Having a fan belt snap in the middle of nowhere is no fun, but carrying a those correct-spec spares takes the sting out of it.

Did I miss body bags somewhere on that list?

    • Johnny Paratrooper March 11, 2021 at 08:10

That’s actually not a bad Idea.

  10. GK March 10, 2021 at 21:59

Just a standard old Hy-Lift Jack, shackles, and chain.
How the heck did “Calvin and Hobbes peeing on Karl Marx Sticker” not make Red letter status?

    • Johnny Paratrooper March 11, 2021 at 08:09

Ah, pretty easy. My neighbors are all commies. I don’t want my tires slashed by a bisexual disappointment.

  11. Ralph k March 11, 2021 at 00:27

How bout an extra set of keys, just in case. Maybe a 12v tire inflator or fix a flat tire inflator or two? If all else fails, carjack instructions from the hood might be handy also. Don’t forget the I voted for obummer sticker on the bumper…might give you a few seconds of hesitation from the bad guys. Maybe a CB radio would be in order too. And don’t forget your registration, proof of insurance and ID in case you get pulled over. Well, yes Officer, I did run over those protesters, but I did use my turn signal and had right of way…why do you ask? Really? He’s stuck to my radiator? No, it wasn’t me. No sir, I haven’t been drinking, Oh, the Everclear is in case my windshield gets dirty.

Coleman Peak One stove and glacier coffee pot. Makes waiting easier and you can heat the water for your freeze drieds

  13. James March 11, 2021 at 23:10

A pair of vice grips and some tire plugs,an easy fix if nail in tread ect.,you do have a jack and you used your full size spare 10 miles back, right.A baby 12 volt compress and you are back on the road.
As for protestors on roads you do have for long trips marks for local car washes that do have a “under car”wash option,right…..?

  14. Mark. March 13, 2021 at 00:20

An extra set of ignition points.

  15. Garand69 March 13, 2021 at 09:34

At least 3-4 blow up dolls to imply strength in numbers.

  16. Steve Lowe March 21, 2021 at 10:48

You forgot a “master key” – a bolt cutter – 5 ft long handles for any bolt needed!
