This Drone Tracks You So Good it’s Kinda Scary

Pretty cool tech, open source and over the counter.

Terminator movies don’t seem so silly now. 870 back in service I guess.

Same tech as mine. Obsticle avoidance, 7 sensor. Problem is it first has to profile a target to follow. I do not have thermal on mine however.

Need to send one of those out to look for Bracken; really starting to wonder about him now. Seems like the drone has to find you first but once it locks on it’s got you. Seems like it has to fly close enough to be taken out by birdshot which possibly means you could hear it. My biggest concern would be the ones that the military uses that fly high enough out of sight and sound. Can those things find you if you were hiding out in the woods. And more importantly is there a way that a person can minimize their thermal signature? I was looking at thermal blankets the other night. They’re pretty inexpensive and curious to how they worked and if you Gents thought they were important enough to keep in your pack?

There were several videos and articles on this site recently discussing thermal evasion. One of them talked about how to use a thermal blanket.

      Luke,
Possibly Bracken is out sailing on his boat. If he is, he is probably having a fantastic time.

      Nice

Problem I see with drones is there seems to be little a person can do against them, especially the military versions. Only defense against them I perceive is their limited power supply and eliminating the control centers. Best defense against any of them, even the military versions, is developing a predator done. A drone that preys solely on other drones….. Stay grey…

Imagine this kind of functionality in a swarm. We are so screwed.

I wonder if a Spark Gap Transmitter would screw this pooch good.

12GA #5 shot, copper plated. It’s about the same size as a pheasant, and about the same distance away, so why not. I’m not worried as much about the smaller .civ drones, but as was stated earlier, the .mil versions, which I am certain have better surveillance features, and probably weapons to boot.
This model would be nice to have for a group or individual to have for recon/surveillance etc., but it is vulnerable to being shot down if someone knows what they’re doing with a shotgun. It also seems quite noisy, like a whole swarm of bees. Also what about wind? How well or fast would it be able to track in the woods in gusty wind conditions, with leafy branches blowing into its path?
The other thing that I noticed in the video, is that the park where they were doing tree avoidance was pretty well manicured. Nice trails, limbed up a good 10′, with little to no understory trees or brush. I don’t think that this drone would do as well in an unmanicured hardwood forest, especially in summer, or in a densely packed conifer forest, or the pine/oak hammock/palmetto scrub in NE FL, where I used to live. In that area, a 25 yard shot is considered long, though areas which had been logged off were quite large and open; places where one shouldn’t be crossing anyway.

Not so good with rifles or handguns but I can bust some ass with a shotgun. So much so it’s my primary and she’s tough. A good addition to any group of riflemen I should think lol.

Put my homestead up for sale a year or so ago . A guy calls wanting to see the place and I told him I was taking appointments . He asked for the address . I gave it to him and told him to call me before coming out . About an hour later I see someone pull off in a field up the hill north of me . He gets out a big 10 K drone and lifts it off the hood of the SUV . As it flies across the river and over my valley I let off a three inch 12 Gage at it at about 100 meters away . I seen a couple pieces of plastic fly off of it and it quickly turned and set back down on the hood . I guess he wasn’t interested as I never heard back and I decided to take the place off the market . You are compromised with even the best drones in these heavily forested hills . 5 seconds and 100 feet more and I would have cut him in two and he knew it .

Try Sabot Designs LLC. shotgun shells. Their finned hardened steel flechette darts. Cut right through—–just about anything. The owner redesigned them with a twist on the fin last I checked. So they would stabilize in fight. Anyway, that’s what the military was using them for, killing drones. But they work on so much more. Best turkey load ever made.

An aerial patrol? Multiple batteries kept charged for sentry duty watch changes? Night/day on programed route? Early warning of approach to neighborhood by individuals/group?

    • Mike April 13, 2021 at 02:14

While aerial recon can be pretty useful, they will never collect as much thorough info as a team on the ground. Still, a great option if you lack the manpower.

      • James Carpenter aka "Felix" April 13, 2021 at 08:58

Lack of man power. Precisely the problem in my AO. Given the heavy, heavy weight of expense, where (if anywhere) would a thermal-capable drone fit in the list of items prioritized for purchase?
FWIW, I live in an elongated community stretching down a valley for 1.2 miles, pine covered ridges forming side boundaries (approximately 12 full-time households of mixed ideology, older-aged majority). An island of private-sub-divided land surrounded by National Forest, 6 miles from a 60k+ population center.
As an area suitable for basing guerillas or as an area to hold for its resources… your TDG exercises certainly raise some questions “close to home”.

at 500 feet up you cant see it and unless you are really moving you cant hear it either.. The mavic zoom has a zoom lens so higher altitude observation isnt a problem..
