“Prayers of a Warrior”: Psalm 80 – Restore us, O God, by CountrySlicker

Psalm 80
1 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who dwell between the cherubim, shine forth!
2 Before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh, Stir up Your strength, And come and save us!
3 Restore us, O God; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved!
4 O LORD God of hosts, How long will You be angry Against the prayer of Your people?
5 You have fed them with the bread of tears, And given them tears to drink in great measure.
6 You have made us a strife to our neighbors, And our enemies laugh among themselves.
7 Restore us, O God of hosts; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved!
8 You have brought a vine out of Egypt; You have cast out the nations, and planted it.
9 You prepared room for it, And caused it to take deep root, And it filled the land.
10 The hills were covered with its shadow, And the mighty cedars with its boughs.
11 She sent out her boughs to the Sea, And her branches to the River.
12 Why have You broken down her hedges, So that all who pass by the way pluck her fruit?
13 The boar out of the woods uproots it, And the wild beast of the field devours it.
14 Return, we beseech You, O God of hosts; Look down from heaven and see, And visit this vine
15 And the vineyard which Your right hand has planted, And the branch that You made strong for Yourself.
16 It is burned with fire, it is cut down; They perish at the rebuke of Your countenance.
17 Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, Upon the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself.
18 Then we will not turn back from You;  Revive us, and we will call upon Your name.
19 Restore us, O LORD God of hosts; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved!
Just as the psalmist prayed for God to restore Israel (we should all be praying for the restoration of Israel), we too should be praying for God to restore our own homeland.  When you look back and study the peoples that settled this land and their dedication to God, you realize what a great work God was doing among them.  Even in the founding of America, George Washington gave God the glory: “Glorious indeed has been our Contest: glorious, if we consider the Prize for which we have contended, and glorious in its Issue; but in the midst of our Joys, I hope we shall not forget that, to divine Providence is to be ascribed the Glory and the Praise.”  —Letter to Reverend John Rodgers, June 11, 1783
Our nation today is continuing to move away from it’s foundation on Godly principles and values.  Our people are focused on serving the flesh and the world.  Paul reminded the Corinthians that “this world as we know it will soon pass away”.  (1 Corinthians 7:31)
George Washington also acknowledged the ongoing need for God in America: “May the same wonder-working Deity, who long since delivering the Hebrews from their Egyptian Oppressors planted them in the promised land—whose Providential Agency has lately been conspicuous in establishing these United States as an independent Nation—still continue to water them with the dews of Heaven and to make the inhabitants of every denomination participate in the temporal and spiritual blessings of that people whose God is Jehovah.” —Letter to the Hebrew congregation of Savannah, Georgia
America, like Israel, is in need of restoration.  The path to restoration is simple.  Not easy, but simple.  A nation that acknowledges God will be blessed.  A nation that curses God will be left to its own ruin.  As the psalmist repeated three times: Restore us, O LORD God of hosts; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved!
Pray for Israel.  Pray for America.  Recognize our need for God’s providence.
“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”  (2 Chronicles 7:14)
May you appeal to God daily to restore our land, seek His ways in your life, and turn from all wickedness.
God Bless,

Good words. I appreciate the sentiment, however, I fear that as a nation we passed the tipping point and any meaningful cure is going to be extremely painful. The sad reality is that many mainline, large, “protestant” churches have bought into the BLM/social justice malarkey and the average pew warmer goes along. Therein lies the problem; many professing Christians don’t know their Bible and idolize a sissified version of Jesus.

Sentiment: Absolutely not… the truth from God’s Word.
Past the tipping point: Maybe… Only God knows. He is sovereign.
Cure is going to be extremely painful: Absolutely… Jesus hung on a cross!
Christians in word only: Yes… “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ (Mathew 7:22-23)
Reality: So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way. (Romans 14:12-16)
Excuses: Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.” (John 21:22)
One day I’ll stand before God to give account for my actions. I won’t be required to answer for anyone’s actions but my own. I don’t intend to offer excuses for inaction, point to the unsaved pagans, or explain why I gave up because it seemed hopeless in my eyes. I intend to finish the race set before me.

He is our only hope in this world and nation that has forgotten the Living God. We have to get back to Him Sir. In that you are correct. I humbly beseech him to stir our hearts once again. Here am I Lord . Start with me .
