L.A. Controlled Detonation: Suspiciously more powerful than anticipated…

My veteran GWOT brothers have seen blast flashes that shape and size before…

Some imagery below for the uninitiated.

Call me crazy, but that is textbook “HME”.

5,000 pound “cache”…

And “Only ten pounds”.

Huh?

Ten pounds of what?!?!

17 IED’s discovered?

Please don’t tell the Q folks that the number 17 came up (Again).

I am super tired of the crazy…

“Homemade”

1 man in custody?

I think this was DDF, or, perhaps Chinese HME grade PETN?

Strong enough to push over a truck?

Gee Golly Gosh, that sounds familiar…

Poor Antifa.

The Fedbois seized their toys for the summer RevCom Block party.

RIP to this fine piece of American Made Equipment.

Prayers for the survivors. I am certain they have blurry vision and a headache still.

Video Below: “Giant M-80’s”

Curious…

We just call that Dynamite in Coal County, PA…

Video Below: Looks like 30ish stories up.

Commercial floor to ceiling height is, on average, 17-22 feet.

Which is, ball park estimate, 600 feet vertical.

Enter Pythagoras and his theorem.

AKA the Carpenter’s “3-4-5” trick.

About 750-850 feet (Possibly 900-1000 feet?) range at a 45 Degree Angle.

Looks like it would still pop around 600 feet given the same fuse/time on target.

That’s 200ish meters/yards gentlemen. You confirmed zero at 300 yards/meters right?

And are confident to 500 right?

Point target for the AK is 200 meters…

A Quick lesson on Imagery/Videographic Analysis for Improvised Weapons.

AP’s math guys, please check my math; I did that in my head on the fly.

Let’s have some fun in the comments, discuss, and stretch those algebra muscles.

Interesting Times…

I’ve seen any explosions and the detailed forensic reports that come afterwards. Surely that was someone chemistry project shoved into store bought fireworks and probably some “Burt Gomer” pipe bombs.

I’m curious as to what S.O.P. is followed in these cases – Are there field tests available to determine what components were used in a device? It’s obvious the bomb squad had no idea what they were dealing with. What’s to prevent this from happening again?

      • Johnny Paratrooper July 6, 2021 at 16:25

There are field tests. And I suspect the amount of Black powder fouled the testing strips. Concealing the true content of the devices.

  2. Harvey Weinstein July 6, 2021 at 12:50

I heard a rumor that there was a radio transmission overhear from the bombsquad where someone said- here, hold my beer! Just a rumor, mind you.

    • Johnny Paratrooper July 6, 2021 at 13:41

      Dat Pseudonym though…Story Checks Out.

  3. HP July 6, 2021 at 13:10

3-4-5 is one of the first things I teach my carpenters. If done correctly it is precisely accurate and can be easily scaled up. Its not as cool as the Hilti Total Station robotic layout device, but its free, accurate, and reliable.
Also, commercial buildings (depending on age) usually have first couple stories 20’+ floor to deck, then 12’+/- up from there. Minor detail, but your math looks pretty good.

    • Johnny Paratrooper July 6, 2021 at 13:41

Thanks HP. I worked on Hospital, Residential, and other POB’s like Data Centers/Banks. Which tend to have extra room in the ceilings for GEP and extra positive pressure HVAC systems. As well as Medical Gas and Mounts for HEAVY equipment like operating lights, surgical trays, and X-Ray machines. As well as all the supplemental equipment.

A Truckload of “Fireworks” would have left a Huge Amount of Ash and Trash, still Burning, all around the Explosion. This is clearly the Effects of some Commercial or Military-Grade Explosives. Simple Chemical Testing of the Surfaces exposed to the Blast will reveal the exact Composition of the ‘device’. ‘Government authorities’ are clearly LYING about this Incident. Who are they Covering Up for?
If this were something by White American Citizens, the kosher media would be Screaming 24/7 about the “Domestic White Nationalist Terrorists”.
This gives some Credence to the claims that the Chinamart PLA is pre- positioning Troops and Weapons for some kind of Military Action within the CONUS. Of Course, given the Treason already displayed by the Military General Staff, it goes without saying that the ‘government’ will do Anything it has to to ‘Cover Up’ its own, or Foreign Operatives.

    • Johnny Paratrooper July 6, 2021 at 14:34

We aren’t getting the whole story. And there is a lot of suspicious language in the interviews and reports.

    • Johnny Paratrooper July 6, 2021 at 16:24

It also would have left an ENORMOUS cloud of black powder smoke as if someone set off a battery of 16 pound cannon. And there would have been interviews with witness who say “And then I couldn’t see anything, there was smoke everywhere”
Which, of course, we all know didn’t happen… because it’s on video.

Looks like the vehicle remains of that Kelly Loeffler staffer Harrison Deal who got in a car explosion shortly after the Nov election. Not sure if you guys remember that? He was dating Gov Kemp’s daughter. Can only find one photo of his car and yes it kinda looked like this.
On a lighter note I am overjoyed that Nicole was not injured or maimed during this incident.

  6. Chris July 6, 2021 at 19:00

    Velllly interesting
    Reality is irrelevant.
And these idiots forget about 20 glorious years of the WOT. The 10,000 plus anyway that are versed in explosions.
    What idiots..they are and US.
US for putting up with there Lies.

  7. Reader July 6, 2021 at 19:10

Not a Vet nor chemist here but i’ve played with enough fireworks. they dont ALL go off at the same time if that was fireworks. even all fuses tied together, you’re gonna have more chain-like explosions.

    • Pietro July 6, 2021 at 20:40

I don’t think even the news is acting as though these were fireworks. The “fireworks” are the headline but the items that were detonated were “IEDs” even in the reporting. They also reported that fireworks were loaded into a truck and removed from the scene. It’s classic media lie by framing. We can speculate on why the lie. Is it because the explosives are connected to leftist orgs or some other protected group? Because the perp they arrested wasn’t white? Because some guys in black suits came into the new rooms shouting “national security?” From all indications, whatever they put in that blast chamber was more powerful than they intended. Of course, pressurizing the explosion and having a catastrophic failure of the container is a big contributor to the force of the blast, sort of like the use of pressure cookers for IEDs. But still the cops either through incompetence or murphy failed to recognize what they were dealing with.

    • Johnny Paratrooper July 7, 2021 at 08:58

      Genius level post right here.
How, or what, achieved the spontaneous detonation?
If it was fireworks, it would have been “Pop, Pop, Pop”

  8. Reader July 6, 2021 at 19:13

“nearly 17 police officers and an ATF agent.”
    found the problem.

  9. Ralph July 6, 2021 at 19:32

Potassium chlorate and aluminum? The former is an ingredient in some fireworks. Very powerful oxidizer, just need something mixed in that wants to oxidize.

    • John July 6, 2021 at 20:56

The Aluminum is the substance which is oxidized in this compound. I think that these are the ingredients for Tannerite.
The talking head said that the LAPD put 10 pounds of (unidentified by reporting) explosive in a vessel rated for 50 lbs of (some other explosive) and SET IT OFF IN A NEIGHBORHOOD, with predictable results.
Note the multiple 8′ high pallets of fireworks (or are they more of the “10 Lbs”) sitting on the street near the bomb truck.
With ATF and LAPD on the scene, there should have been at least one box labeled “ACME”.
      John in Indy

      • Ralph July 6, 2021 at 21:11

I get the effects of explosions, but remember that was pressurized because of the chamber. So presumably all that’s needed is overcome the rating of the chamber to create the big boom. One of the videos said it was rated for 15lbs…I’m guessing this is tnt they are using for the rating. So they put 10 lbs of something that exceeding the rating of 15lbs of tnt.

      • Erik Weisz July 8, 2021 at 16:32

Iron oxide (aka rust) and aluminum powder make thermite, originally used to weld railroad tracks together. I don’t know if it’s explosive, but when set on fire, it burns with a very high heat and intensity, even under water. I believe small amounts of thermite are what sparklers are made of.

  10. suzanna July 6, 2021 at 20:56

Who detonates a truck full of whatever explosives in a busy city neighborhood/such BS

    • Johnny Paratrooper July 9, 2021 at 09:56

Because it was full of homemade explosives. I don’t think these were fireworks. There is no need to pop off fireworks in the middle of a neighborhood.

  11. Coop Willis July 7, 2021 at 01:15

ABC in Los Angeles said LA cops tried to detonate the explosives! I think they got it done! Just trust the LA cops and they will take care of you. https://youtu.be/4nFZkZJ9C8E

  12. Chris July 7, 2021 at 01:26

40 IEDs the size of soda cans & 200 other smaller devices; 5,000 pounds of illegal fireworks (twice the weight of a small car) found at a residential home, But A) this is just a “routine” “fireworks disposal” operation where the disposal vessel for some reason failed, oh and don’t forget B) “white supremacists” are the biggest “terrorist threat” to the nation.
Suuuuure. Pull the other one. It’s got bells on it!
And Gomer: “All the protocols, training was followed. We don’t sure what happened.” Just what you always like to hear from your supposed “bomb experts”.
The “experts” just get more & more “competent” every day.
I mean, the “national security” “experts” are even letting the Chinese military build drone airfields inside US borders now. Our cup of “competence” overfloweth.

  13. Coop Willis July 7, 2021 at 01:33

I feel sorry for the citizens who were injured in the blast. This looks like the “Keystone Cops!” Maybe Chicago’s Mayor can send some of her finest: Chief of Police and others to stop the Gang Problems in LA! The “Bubble-Headed Bleach Blonde” with CBSN said, “Maybe the explosives were more powerful than the ATF and LA cops thought they were.” God Help Us All.

  14. rto-jerry July 7, 2021 at 05:31

“Really, really, really big M80’s” thanks for the scoop Nicole.

  15. Joe July 7, 2021 at 08:47

How is it safe enough for police EOD to place and wire for detonation these IEDs inside of the containment vessel, and it’s not safe to move them, inside the containment vessel, the fuck away from populated areas?
    The stupid, it burns.

  16. Him July 7, 2021 at 10:18

I may have spotted the problem. Was that an affirmative action female officer working on the detonator?

    • Joe July 7, 2021 at 10:53

I saw that too. That containment chamber looked pretty full. Probably a gross underestimate/miscalculation of net explosive. The chamber was stated as able to safely detonate 15# equivalent of TNT, so with a MINIMUM factor of safety of 2, for possible containment damage, but no catastrophe. They must have loaded >>>30# of TNT equivalent.
There was an independent QA/QC assessing the primary EOD, right?

  17. Paulo July 7, 2021 at 12:09

Reminds me of lighting up a little chunk of c-4 to use as
heat tab and somebody stepping on it to put it out – BOOM

    • red July 8, 2021 at 09:27

      that happened

      • Paulo July 8, 2021 at 11:09

Never seen it happen, but it was part of a discussion in demo range by instructors.
I would have driven that containment chamber truck far away to an open and wide area.
        That was a huge blast.

  18. Grumpy July 7, 2021 at 15:31

    Couple of observations –
1)Were the I.E.D.’s assembled on site? If not, they were stable enough to have been transported there.
    2) If shipped from overseas, how did the Port Authority not detect large quantities of black powder during inspection?
    3) If the contraband came from Mexico, well I guess we can thank the Congress and Bill Clingon for pushing NAFTA through.
I have to wonder if this wasn’t an inside job to shape public opinion. We’ll have to wait and see who is targeted by the media ‘blame thrower’.

  19. James July 7, 2021 at 17:29

Well, now I know what happened to me fireworks delivery this year!
I suppose this is a real bitch, blow in a theory safe container with locals moved back or travel miles with said stuff to a huge field ect. hoping it does not blow in a neighborhood traveling thru.
This will say looks really bad with so called “experts” on site, damn big Black Jacks!

  20. GenEarly July 9, 2021 at 08:35

    1 Manufacturing and Stockpiling IEDs. 2. Other Locations/Cities? 3.No-Newz + Gubmint + Sheeples = ???
BTW, this story will not be national and will be dropped like a hot potato, meaning it’s Really Real.
More to Come, (from the White Nationalist Non-Vaxed Deplorable Insurgents of course)

  21. Stealth Spaniel July 11, 2021 at 20:19

I worked long hours all week, so I’m late to posting………My poor beloved Los Angeles, now run by affirmative action hires, diverse idiots, and the best of the incompetent.
1-I see Affirmative Action was on display with baby whale loading the explosives in the hidey hole. That was the first mistake.
2-When I was growing up in the City of Angels, no “hang ’em at the airport” cop would have even thought to detonate fireworks or explosives in an old area. In the middle of the street, surrounded by old houses (built around 1919-1935) with their pourous gas pipes. There was always a rookie who needed to prove his balls to drive them out to the boonies.
3-Of course, not one cop, ATF agent, or neighborhood loud mouth thought to evacuate the neighborhood? Just.In.Case.Something.Went.Wrong.
4-We all know that this stash belongs to a protected group of thugs:BLM, Antifa, Chinese Army,Local Communists, or Islam Affliated.
5-JP, you are right. This story has gone straight to video. Not a peep from any “news” source.
We are in for a rough ride.
