A large number of reasons. One very good one is sending calls with a wifi only device over an open network.

Several reasons to war drive. Finding open networks that aren’t your own. You may need to send sensitive information not linked back to your QTH. By logging into an open wifi you can use a vpn to send encrypted traffic to your intended target. Its also interesting to see what’s being broadcast out there via rf in your area. If everyone using wifi is using channel 2 you may want to change your wifi router to use channel 11 so there is less traffic and you would get faster speeds. You can also wardrive to find hidden cameras, security cameras, and such. Its interesting to log in to them and see what they are looking at. Is wardriving necessary for everyone? No probably not but it gives you geek credits and is interesting to learn. I wont talk about all the illegal things you could do with this information if you were a bad guy.

Haven’t watched it yet but the title made me smile. It’s the radio posts that make me wish at times that I stayed in engineering as my major.
