Updated!!! Free Online Class #1: Red Dot Sights/Holographic Weapon Sights

-UPDATE-

CLASS WILL NOT BE RECORDED AND REPOSTED

I was asked not to record and post.

This should increase participation for those concerned with privacy.

Or for anyone who is camera shy.

For those who miss the class, there will be another soon enough.

I am doing my first FREE online class.

8PM EST Tonight.

This will continue when we are SOL because of no Radio Contra SOL.

When Scout and the others are out training, we will train also.

Because we are here to win.

This is a test of functionality for this method.

I have a lot of experience with Zoom from College.

It works very well, is free to participants, and as the host I purchased the Basic Pro Plan so our meetings can go beyond 40 minutes.

You can run Zoom from a browser or use the App.

This class is on the Red Dot Sight(RDS) and Holographic Weapon Sight(HWS)

I want to share what I learned in the U.S. Army about these optics with you!

All will benefit: New, Professional, and Unsure.

Considering a purchase of an RDS or HWS?

This is the Class for you!

The Course materials are:

Pen

Pencil

Red Marker

Note Paper or Pad

Link For Printed M-4 Zero Target(s)

You should only need 2 or 3 targets in case you screw up some markings.

And, a Lamp or other light source in the room. This is not required, but will be helpful!

As well as, one unloaded and cleared AR, AK, or Pistol with a Red Dot or Holographic Weapon Sight.

You will, most likely, want to be seated at a kitchen table, not your lounge chair.

This is a class on the optics and their function and use.

Not a course on “How To Blow a Hole In your Ceiling 101

Please Practice Firearm’s Safety.

The primary tools used for demonstration will be an Eotech and an Aimpoint, But all participants are welcome, regardless of product choice.

-Syllabus-

Lecture followed by some tips and tricks on how to get the most out of your Red Dot Sight and Holographic Weapon Sight.

And a Q and A portion.

Then a repeat if necessary.

You will learn something.

Link for the Class Room and the Password, will be provided to anyone who emails my Tutanota account or is on the Forum.

As the host with a bought and paid for “Pro Account”: I can ban any losers, trolls, or loose cannons.

Please, try to test my skills with the Zoom user interface.

Thanks Guys!
It will be fun, I will see you there.

Am glad this course isnt about blowing a hole in your ceiling. I already passed that one!

    • James August 26, 2021 at 13:48

Dude,no problems,I am a licensed builder so any who have a mishap can fix your home for you,as for any now enraged /homicidal family members/pets ect.,that is not my problem!

      • That dude August 26, 2021 at 14:42

Thankfully and with alot of training/practice that was 12 years ago. It was a 22, so the repairs wasn’t that bad. But I’ll keep you in mind.

A greighwolf at Bragg once told me “You are gonna blow a hole in the ceiling or yourself eventually if you play with guns long enough.” after placing my hand on the muzzle of an AR.
All the weapons were clear, but doesn’t that defeat the purpose of following all the gun safety rules?
You gotta follow all of them to be truly safe.

        Pain is a powerful teacher.

Nice, this is a interesting approach to lay out some skill sets.Guess who is working away from home and does not have a red dot at moment(might be able to borrow a friends setup),if not will watch later video.
I also believe I have destroyed camera ability on me travel laptop!

    • Johnny Paratrooper August 26, 2021 at 13:55

You don’t need a camera my friend.
      You can watch me.

I’m glad to see you doing an online class. I’m also glad to see you are recording it and posting the finished class when done. I always miss stuff and it’s nice to go over things again to see what I missed. People that say they can’t teach a class online just don’t know how to teach and change their classes information to an online format. I wish more folks would do this. Not all of us are able to drive somewhere due to handicaps, or farm animals, financially, etcetc. Thank you for this.

Little classes like this, which do take a considerable amount of time, are worth the hour or two, and the table top exercises are very useful. This is similar to dry fire practice, but focused on the utility of a modern electric optic.
We are going to cover all the little stuff so that courses like Brushbeater’s “Fighting Carbine” or any other carbine related event, is simpler easier and more fruitful.
      Skipping the headache is best.

I like this idea. Maybe a mini armorers course would be cool to add in the future.
Got some sort of “tip jar” system set up?
I may not be able to attend live, but for the Security / Privacy bros there is a way for you to enable a link for folks to join with a browser so they don’t have to install the Zoom spyware: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115005666383#h_61cfe33d-98bf-4e4d-85dd-799248348632
I’m looking forward to watching this on way or the other. 🍺

    • Johnny Paratrooper August 26, 2021 at 16:39

I am considering not recording it for the purposes of privacy and not posting it.
That way people engage and ask questions.
In fact I am going to do just that.
It’s possible to attend and not show your face.
I have the system set up so that participants are automatically muted and blacked out when the join.

    • Luke August 26, 2021 at 20:05

Damn didn’t know i needed to email you before hand. I can’t seem to find your email JP!!

      • NC Scout August 26, 2021 at 21:59

Everything was posted on the forum.

        • Luke August 26, 2021 at 22:06

I registered on Zoom (link) this afternoon. I tried to sign in about 5 minutes early. Anyhow couldn’t find JP’s email and I did search. Would have messaged you but figured it wouldn’t make it back in time. Wanted to meet you guys. And I do listen to the Green Dragon Saloon from time to time. No worries will be prepared going forward.

I was in attendence last night, and I thought it was pretty good. I’ve been using red dots for quite some time now, but have very little formal instruction. Since we all know things with a bit different details, I figured to pick up something, and I did.
Unfortunately, due to pretty bad astigmatism, I can’t use an eotech or aimpoint. Pretty much all battery powered optics bloom out quickly, or the dot is an oblong, canted about 15-20 degrees. However, fiber optic powered dots are perfectly clear and sharp. A friend tells me it’s the different light wavelength.
My tripower, which I had in camera, if you saw it, has a chevron reticle.
I will definitely make use of the 9mm pcc sight in for my 9mm sbr, which has a mini acog on it.
Thank You again, I hope you do more in the future.
