I’ve been reading up on these hard lately. Aes256 is available on the btech branded version of the anytone finally, so that’s in the running for whatever I end up with.

      Yup!

I wasn’t able to get the Btech 6X2 with 2.04 firmware to operate with the Anytone 878IP, 878IIP, and 578 with AES. The Anytones all good with 64 bit hex keys.

Fun thing about the anytones – it’s a software lock in them that locks them into a certain freq range. You can actually change that to allow them a much larger range, and since the mobile version and the handheld seem to run similar software, you can even get the HT to tune to the 1.25m band that supposedly only the mobile works on – I haven’t tried Txing on it though, since it wasn’t designed for it.

If you want to use the 578 mobile for TOC powerwerx makes a nice enclosure dc power supply. The 578 will also act as repeater / cross frequency / DMR to analog bridge

Yes!! We did this in class out in Wyoming. Outstanding unit.

Can you tell me more about making a 578 into a repeater? Does it have a function to rebroadcast what its receiving?

I’ve been going all in on the anytones. Im hoping at some point baofeng will support aes256 and work with the Anytone.
One issue with the Anytone is the screen. Its basically always on and can’t really be blacked out at night. I keep it in a pouch, but im worried it will still be a beacon under night vision.

You can change this in the settings. Use a computer to program and you’ll spot it under “options”
