Great info on a muddy topic. I would liked to have seen him test the common mylar bags that are common for food storage. The fact that he used proper test equipment is a firm plus.

Good deal learned something. Watched some of his other videos and like the guys work.

I keep my radio in a foam lined ammo can. It’s water tight and thick steel. Not sure if it actually works. But it makes me feel better.
I wonder if grounding the outside of the can would have an effect?

Test it by putting your phone inside and trying to call it. If it rings, the cage don’t work.

      • Paulo September 9, 2021 at 16:04

Did that by wrapping it around 3 times in plain aluminum foil, and it worked.
Regarding EMP’s… wonder how lead would block?
Aren’t some of those house roof ventilation pipes still around that I think are made of lead?

        • NC Scout September 9, 2021 at 16:38

          Lead works extremely well.

Maybe that’s why I’m having headaches lately? Good thing about being old is your exterior balls don’t count for much anymore!

“Did that by wrapping it around 3 times in plain aluminum foil, and it worked.”
What I meant was just the phone by itself. Wrapping it with aluminum foil a few times,
and folding each end, one fold one direction and other fold other direction.
Not putting it in any box, can or container.

Tried it. Had the wife call. It blew right through. Tried it in grounded an ungrounded microwave oven. Got all 3 calls. No problem. Scary.
        Thanks N.C.

If the Cell Frequency’s can get into the Microwave, then the Microwave Freq’s are getting out – They are a much smaller wavelength. Your cooking your balls.

In all seriousness… I thought a Mylar bag would work with a cell phone. It didn’t. Wrapped and folded in one bag, then double wrapped in a second did the trick.
Same results with the Baofengs. Although the test platforms were 6 feet apart.

    He has much better hair than I do… I hate him… Even if he’s right… 😂

I love how this guys wearing a tie. I want one of those door assemblys and then wonder is he in a trailer? What the.

One more…why is it that I just realized that if aluminum causes alzheimers disease in the brain it is technically building up a faraday cage barnacle formed within your brain? Is this why you forget who you are and it cuts off the connection to God from within the signal of your DNA strands…maybe I am too beyond the twilight zone this week. I wouldn’t use any aluminum pots or canners either.

It’s a stretch to take correlation to causation without a lot more information and study. Something is going wrong in the brain, or the blood brain barrier (BBB), and they are finding aluminum with the proteins. Is it the cause? We’re far from knowing that.

Well lets just say that I am not going to willingly be the guinea pig to try and verify it 100% sure. Stainless steel for me, to be on the safe side.

Folks, look at the fancy door behind him in the opening shot, the wall panels bolted together, and all the power entry filters behind him at 0:52. He is in an RF tight room (>110 dB) called an EMI chamber. I spent a few years of my life working in some, doing what he does. This guy is an EMI engineer, and is an expert at shielding and controlling RF emissions – which is exactly what an EMP is. You can take EVERYTHING this gent says straight to the bank. Bless Dr. Bradley for this vid.
The high-end test equipment is what he uses every day, to test the RF susceptibility of electronic devices. He is using industry standard EMI methods here to teach. Taping seams is very common to seal things up tight. He absolutely PROVES that the see-thru Mylar (aka anti-static) bags are useless against EMP. I also use metal ammo cans – but you gotta tape ’em up – aluminum tape is fine.
Another trick for the really precious stuff is to double shield. Put the radio/nods/whatever in a good (ie can’t see thru it) metal bag and seal; put that in a thick plastic bag as an insulator; and put THAT in the final box/can and tape it up.
An EMP box or can DOES NOT need to be grounded. That is done only for very large structures that can hold a significant surface charge.
All the EMP vids lately are for a purpose – it’s getting VERY Short. Use this time well.

    Bradley knows his stuff.
2 or more layers of aluminum foil separated by paper or plastic are also workable, but a PITA to do, and very difficult to reuse. That is what the high-level anti-static bags are- plastic/AL/plastic. What Dr. Bradley’s testing has shown him is that the SCS 3400 series bags are the best he’s found so far.
DigiKey has (some) sizes of these bags still left in stock and they have reasonable prices. When these are tightly folded over (3 folds min) and clamped closed they are good to at least 40 dB isolation, or more. Put a bag like that in a lined garbage can or metal box, and you will have adequate shielding against even the ‘Super EMP”, or against having your position logged by your personal electronic devices.
