That was fun. I’m gonna practice my charisma and on air presence for our next episode. And we will focus on the topic of night fighting and methods of fire.

Rifle v pistol cartridge in regards to HD, not sure there is a practical difference in over penetration regardless. If you hit the target and use a load that is likely to lose most its energy in the target aka good 9mm hollow points or a 5.56 that has the velocity to do the whole separating at the cannelure and fragmentation then you’re good. If you hit em with something that tends to pass through, 9mm or 5.56 or otherwise, then you’re going to have a problem with anyone behind the target. This isn’t invoking odd circumstances like the emaciated, dehydrated meth addict that proves the exception to the rule or the HP not expanding due to clothing or other extraordinary conditions.
If you miss the target, well, there ain’t much in modern home construction that will matter. Your bullet is likely going to go through multiple walls and still retain lethal velocity. I could see some particular loads of 5.56/223 being slightly safer but that’d be things like frangibles or low weight varmint rounds that most people aren’t using and which aren’t ideal for hitting 300lb Tyrone through the bones in his arm and his ribs and having the mass and energy to put a stop to the function of his essential organs.
Down side to rifle rounds are that they are much louder and concussive. But they also tend to be more likely to cause a debilitating wound.
Just an individual judgement call IMHO. I wouldn’t drag a person for going one way or the other.
