Eye in the Sky

This is the full version of the movie I referenced in Radio Contra Episode 75. Not a film made for enjoyment, it explores the very real moral question of killing by way of drones. Amid the Biden Administration’s repeated use of the ‘over the horizon’ buzz phrase, the over-use of extra-judicial killings with little if any political blowback makes for an attractive option for a spineless political class.
But there are consequences, and severe ones.
Killing in this manner is not simply immoral, but unforgivably dishonorable.
A political leader which relies upon such weapons, seeking only to dehumanize the the very real human cost of war while allowing one’s own decadent nation to rot from within, is no leader at all.

Saw a poleece drone fly over during the 4th, had a boonie hat on while sitting under a balcony on the porch.
Probably no stopping any thermal or IR and it was moving towards me.
Some fat drooling purple haired Karen wymyns or pajama boy genetic misfire will be the pilot and they just love deplorables. (sarc)

Because I’m sure you’re a real threat. Right?

Elitists and American politicians have for too long wages war for personal gain without consequences and physical risk. Drone warfare allows these addicts a live video feed of their destruction to feed their insatiable power lust. How long are we going to sit on the sidelines and watch out great country intentionally destroyed. “No taxation without representation” was a revolutionary slogan prior to the revolutionary war and it is more relevant now than ever-We the people are not represented by Washington DC!

Cat’s been out of the bag for a while, the surprise drone attack works both ways and I suspect some good old fashioned gravity attacks (and others) with assorted “gifts” will be coming soon. The restraint so far just indicates to me a buildup to a sudden and immense catastrophic failure of this system.

Huh, remember watching that, and noticing a face that looks very familiar, in some “terror propaganda vids” somewhere else…

Those “pilots” have names and addresses.

“Malone: You said you wanted to get [Drone Pilot]. Do you really wanna get him? You see what I’m saying is, what are you prepared to do?
      Ness: Anything within the law.
Malone: And *then* what are you prepared to do? If you open the can on these worms you must be prepared to go all the way. Because they’re not gonna give up the fight, until one of you is dead.
Ness: I want to get [Drone Pilot]! I don’t know how to do it.
Malone: You wanna know how to get [Drone Pilot]? They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. *That’s* the *Chicago* way! And that’s how you get [Drone Pilot]. Now do you want to do that? Are you ready to do that? I’m offering you a deal. Do you want this deal?
Ness: I have sworn to capture [Drone Pilot] with all legal powers at my disposal and I will do so.
Malone: Well, the Lord hates a coward. Do you know what a blood oath is, Mr. Ness?
      Ness: Yes.
Malone: Good, ’cause you just took one.”

Never forget that our government sanctioned killing an innocent US civilian on foreign soil who was standing near a terrorist (his dad.) And then under questioning our Top Cop said there were situations where US civilians could be targeted on US soil by drones…

“Over the horizon”. Eerily reminded me of some of the SS terms dealing with killing & the final solution for example “Beyond the mountain”
was used at the Wannsee Conference among others

A past acquaintance of mine, a former senior military officer (O-6 full bird colonel) then consulting with the armed forces and the government concerning the use of UAVs and other advanced systems in Afghanistan, once confided in me (this was maybe 6-7 years ago, in-between jumps overseas) that his greatest fear was the fully-autonomous drones – popularly called “Terminators” in pop culture – would soon become a practical reality. With the kind of military resume and high-level security clearances this gentleman possessed, and probably still does, that’s a pretty heavy-duty statement to make.
The use of such weapons would be a true “revolution in military affairs,” for it would remove the human-being from the “kill decision” – marking a watershed break from the past. In the past, there has always been at least one human in the loop concerning the decision to target the enemy and how, even if several steps removed. Even a conventional drone of today has a data link, and someone sitting in an op-center someplace, making the go/no-go decision.
Given what DARPA is up to these days, such weapons are already a technological reality, or very soon will be. Science-fiction novelist/futurist Daniel Suarez has written a thought-provoking novel around this issue, entitled “Kill Decision,” (2012). It is highly-informative as well as entertaining, well-worth the time of anyone who has interest in this sort of thing.

It’s already a reality, the Israelis used them this year in an autonomous swarm against Hamas.

        @ Mike
Re:”It’s already a reality, the Israelis used them this year in an autonomous swarm against Hamas.”
Wow, well, the future is here… I am not at all up on robotics or any of the other tech, but if I understand the technical hurdles properly, the main stumbling block is that even fully-independent UAVs/drones still have to return to some sort of base for fuel, ammo, etc. There are efforts underway, however, to create robotic creatures, for lack of a better word, which can forage in the natural world and general fuel that way. Models that know how to resupply themselves and can work autonomously for weeks or months at a time. Program a mission into them, set ’em loose and they do the rest. That would be the stuff of nightmares in my view. I guess if there is any bright lining to that dark cloud, it is that this particular “arrow” if you will, points in both directions. If you send an autonomous drone or UAV after someone or something, you can expect to get the same in return.

      Yes indeed it is.

Problem that doesn’t get recognized enough is that the Taliban, ISIS, AQ and others also have autonomous killing devices. Their’s just happen to be human beings with suicide vests or VBIEDs.

  16. Dindu September 2, 2021 at 18:58

    Why do they wear Nomex?

  17. Shoal Creek September 2, 2021 at 20:34

What it doesn’t show, in 6 months or less, the airman on the drone sensors commits suicide; the drone pilot within 4 years.

    Slightly OT, but –
Currently, there are large numbers of Manned Aircraft, in use by numerous “agencies” to Spy on the Citizens, 24/7/365. Recently, I have seen the use of actual Military Aircraft (Army livery and Registration Numbers) with multiple Surveillance Systems being used In and Around the “Swamp”. These aircraft are supported by Contractors and Based at a local “Municipal” Airport, that has a Chain-Link Fence for “Security”. Soft Target.
It is likely that any Secondary Airport near a metropolitan area has some sort of .gov or “Contractor” operating Surveillance Aircraft, and in areas that are outside of Busy, Commercial Airspace (Hub Airports) that Drones are in use as well. It would be a good Intel/Recon operation to Investigate small Airports within about 100 Kilometers’ Radius of your AO for “Spyplanes”. High-Wing ‘Cessna’ brand Planes, models 182, 210, 206, and 208 (Turbine-Powered) are the most common, and have Very Good Electro-Optical Sensors. They are easily Identified by a small Turret-Ball Camera on the Lower Aft Fuselage. Registration Numbers almost always come up to a “Leasing Company” or Shell Corporation, to Hide the Agency operating them. Others are Owned and Operated by Contractors, whose affiliation with the Agency can be Identified through the GSA Contracting Lists.
All of these Airports generally have One, or at most Two, “Fixed Base Operators” that supply Aviation Fuel. Without Fuel, Planes don’t Fly.
All Aircraft and Drones are Dependent on “Ground Support” that is Easy to Interdict. While Long-Range, Military Drones are difficult to Counter while Flying, they have to Land at a Base somewhere. And people (enemies) go In and out of that Gate, every Day.
As I have said before, the VERY FIRST USE of Military Weapons against the Citizens is Cause for the Entire Country becoming a Free-Fire Zone against ANY AND ALL feral government ‘assets’.

I don’t think the uber brass and ‘many blood suckers’ wring their hands and wrangle with each other as the movie depicted.

Excuse my ignorance, or not, but a Drone or a Suicide Vest seems to have the same results. Like a gun it depends Who is holding it and what is their motive, intention. The “mechanism” either way is deadly. War is insanity, yet it like other insanities including most importantly Political Insanities exist and will continue to exist. The only clear cut answer is the immediate defense of your life and your loved ones lives if they haven’t caused great harm to others. Then comes the more difficult questions of waiting to be hit by clear and preventable (hopefully) known and coming assaults. Everyone wants to be 100% “Right” and “Holy” yet it’s an impossibility.
