From the instructor, who holds a Black Belt in Budo Kai Juijitsu:
This two day course will provide students with a strong foundation to effectively protect yourself, your family, and those around you. This course covers versatile and adaptable core principles along side need to know ‘go-to’ fight ending techniques. Students will learn:
-Importance of the basics (Stance, Body Alignment, Structure, Angle, etc.)
-Key targets of the human body (pressure points)
-Ways to effectively attack key target areas
-How to work efficiently!
-Techniques applicable to empty handed combat, as well as weapons (knife, stick, pistol, carbine)
-To challenge preconceived ideas about what it means to “fight”
Some of the techniques taught have very lethal potential, and are taught for educational purposes only. All skill levels are welcome (no prior experience necessary). Some pain should be expected, though each student will decide their own comfort level during training.
Review from ‘Cyclone’ of basic combatives and self defense from a student in the private course this weekend:
I’ve taken several Brushbeater classes as well as various courses through my military training, and the civilian first responder world. I must say the instructor for Basic Combatives and Self Defense is one of the most knowledgeable persons I’ve ever met. He is a true master of his Art. His teaching style takes a very complex topic and breaks it down to simple 1,2,3. In a couple days of training I was able to learn how to
1. Respond to most attacks through a universal defensive response.
2. Identify key pressure points throughout the body that will take down attackers twice my size or release me from a hold.
3. Utilize my every day carry pocket knife for self defense.
4. Basic firearm retention skills.
The instructor was able to tailor the experience for everyone he taught. He helped a police officer with additional weapon retention and baton skills through the use of pressure points easily located on the body under duress. I received additional training on the concepts taught from TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) which I later found to be effective on patients in the field.
Overall this course was extremely fun, mostly hands on, and focused on results. I guarantee this class will be more applicable to our situation than what you would receive from a normal civilian martial arts/ self defense class.
