CA Dems Want to Give Courts Custody of Kids Seeking Trans-Treatments

A bill in California would allow courts to take “temporary emergency jurisdiction” of children that come to the state for trans-treatments.

SB 107 is from Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and involves minors seeking medications, surgery, or mental healthcare.

Wiener says he wants to combat what he calls the “brutal attacks on transgender children” in states that have banned “gender-affirming care” for minors. But Greg Burt, director of Capital Engagement with the California Family Council, says the bill ignores parental rights.

“This bill declares war on parents throughout the country who don’t want their children sterilized because of their gender dysphoria, a condition that resolves itself in most cases after a child reaches adulthood,” says Burt. “Senator Wiener thinks he is making the state a safe haven for kids, but if passed, he will turn California into a threat to every family in the country.”

California Family Council is not the only organization in the state with concerns.

“SB 107 may be the most brazen assault on fundamental parental rights in the history of this state,” says Matthew McReynolds, a senior attorney with Pacific Justice Institute.

Earlier this year, Assemblyman Kelly Seyarto (R-Murrieta) claimed SB 107 violates Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Enforcement Act, a law in which states honor child custody judgements of other states. Wiener denied that is the case.
