SADF, The Bush war, 32nd Battalion Documentaries

For those that might not know, myself and other contributors here at American Partisan are big fans of studying the South African Bush Wars, the SADF, the Rhodesian Military, and their wars and lessons that can be gleaned from their history both before, during, and after. I hope to do an extended series of posts on this subject, including several books I have read and enjoy, documentaries, oral history videos, etc. This story is about a unique group of Angolans trained by South Africans, set up by the legendary Col Jan Breytenbach, and fought extensively in Angola. Eventually, they became South Africans and were named the 32nd Battalion, and the enemy gave them the “Terrible Ones.” It’s hard to write any summary of their history, so please take this quick link on history with a grain of salt.

The definitive book was written by the Col himself, unfortunately out of print.

Here is one broader documentary on the 32nd Battalion; it also discusses how various factions of the South African government, both Pre-Apartheid and the ANC-controlled Post-Apartheid, lied to these mostly black troops and treated them reprehensibly.

Here is another documentary dealing mostly with the 32nd’s treatment post war

I hope you enjoy
