Weekend Gospel message to follow for All Hands (10-12FEB23 A.D.)

Heads-Up — Please find enclosed encouragement in SO GREAT SALVATION by the perfect and finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ in saving poor, needy and wretched sinners by His sovereign free grace –Almighty God’s unmerited favor– from our sins and from Hell:

THE FAITH THAT SAVES

“And He said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace” (Luke 7:50). Does the title of this article shock you? Perhaps you are thinking, but faith cannot save anyone, Christ is the One who saves. In this you are correct, “Salvation is of the LORD.” However, know this, there is no salvation for any sinner who does not believe on the name of the Son of God. What then is faith? Faith is a precious gift of the Lord. “By grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8).

The sovereign grace of God is the fountain of salvation, whereas faith is the channel through which salvation flows into the sinner. The Spirit of Christ makes us thirsty for Him Who is the Water of Life and then the same Spirit gives us grace to take the cup of salvation and drink freely of the mercy of God in Christ. Remember, while faith is necessary, it is not the well of salvation so we must not look to or exalt faith, but look to and rejoice in the free grace of God to us in Christ through Whom the blessings of salvation flow to us. Faith is an absolute necessity, but faith is not the Savior, Christ is. Faith doesn’t put our sins away, Christ did. Saving faith in its origin is a divine gift by which the needy sinner looks to, leans on and comes to the only Savior of the lost. Do not put faith on the same level as the Son of God, for that would make faith an idol!

Faith contributes nothing, but humbly receives all things from the Lord. Faith is the eye that looks to Him, the ear that hears His voice, the hands that reach out to Him and the feet by which we draw near to Him, but Christ is the Savior. Salvation is not in looking to your faith, it is in looking to Christ by faith. Be thankful for faith, but do not be focused upon it; be occupied with the Son of God Who loved us and gave Himself for us. Would you have peace in your heart that all is well between you and God? Peace will not come to you by looking to your faith, but in “looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2). Faith is not occupied with itself, but with the Savior.
