Two People Shot Dead in Brussels. Incident Treated as Possible Terrorism.
On Monday, an alleged terrorist from ISIS shot two people dead in Brussels, Belgium, just days after the “international day of Jihad,” declared by terror group Hamas.
In a video posted to social media, a man claimed that he was the assailant and was from the Islamic State.
Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo confirmed on X that the victims were Swedish, but did not confirm the number of fatalities. Most reports have said that two were killed, but the assailant, who called himself Abdesalem Al Guilani and a fighter for Allah, claimed there were three.
“I have just offered my sincere condolences to Swedish PM following tonight’s harrowing attack on Swedish citizens in Brussels,” De Croo posted on X. “Our thoughts are with the families and friends who lost their loved ones. As close partners the fight against terrorism is a joint one.”
A Belgian newspaper reported that the victims were likely a pair of soccer fans, as Belgium is hosting Sweden in a Euro 2024 qualifying match on Monday evening.
