Oklahoma Rep. Brecheen says US is headed towards bankruptcy if spending is not reined in

Congressman Josh Brecheen, R-Okla., says that the U.S. is headed towards bankruptcy if it doesn’t get serious about cutting federal spending.

“Every dollar that’s funding most of these bureaucracies, that most people won’t touch in their lives, is borrowed from our kids and our grandkids,” he said on the “Just the News, No Noise” TV show. “100% of everything we’re debating is borrowed money. We are headed towards bankruptcy.”

Cutting government spending has been a top priority for some GOP members in the House. It led to former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., being ousted over budget negotiations.

“It’s no longer waste, fraud and abuse,” Brecheen said. “If we don’t get serious about cutting agencies, cutting programs, then we’re gonna go the way of history and that pronouncement is really sad.”

Brecheen has proposed going back to 2019 spending levels.

“I put forth an amendment last week trying to return to 2019 spending levels,” he said. “And I will tell you that even that will not match the size of our problem.”
