Authorities recover remains of fourth victim of Baltimore Bridge collision

Authorities on Monday announced that they had recovered a fourth body of a victim killed in the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Md.

Last month, the container ship Dali collided with one of the bridge’s main support columns, resulting in its near-instant collapse. The ship reported losing power prior to the collision, though the exact cause of the incident remains under investigation.

The Key Bridge Response Unified Command confirmed in a press release that it had recovered the body on Sunday. The remains entered the custody of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and have since been identified, though the identity of the victim has not been made public at the request of the family. Salvage teams with Unified Command located what they believed to be one of the missing construction vehicles and authorities discovered the remains within.

“As we mourn the lives lost and continue the recovery operation, we recognize each missing individual is someone’s beloved friend or family member. Along with all of our allied law enforcement partners, we pledge to exhaust the physical and technical aspects of their training while deploying every available resource possible,” Maryland Department of State Police Superintendent Col. Roland Butler Jr. said.

Divers in late March recovered the remains of two individuals from a sunken pickup truck, identifying them as Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, 35, and Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, 26. At the time, authorities indicated that the remains of other victims were inaccessible.

The third victim’s remains were discovered earlier this month, Sky News reported. Maynor Yasir Suazo-Sandoval, 38, was found by divers who notified the authorities.
