Disgraced EcoHealth Alliance Was Allegedly Given Nearly $100 Million In Taxpayer Funding To Conduct Gain-Of-Function Research In Wuhan: Report

A new report from Fox News reveals that scandal-ridden EcoHealth Alliance, the research firm that allegedly used taxpayer dollars to conduct gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, has received 94.3 million from the federal government since 2008.

The nearly $100 million in taxpayer funds comes through grants, contracts, loans, direct payments, as well as other financial means. Fox reviewed government spending data from USAspending.gov in order to find this number.

This report follows a similar report from last year, which revealed that nearly $8 million in federal research grants were given to EcoHealth Alliance from the National Institutes of Health to study bat coronaviruses in China. In Jan. 2023, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) inspector general released a report revealing that the NIH did not follow its policies and procedures in regards to the grants to EcoHealth, which were granted between 2014 and 2021.

The report also comes a week after Principal Deputy Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Lawrence Tabak admitted to Congress that gain of function research was conducted through EcoHealth Alliance at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, after the claim was denied repeatedly during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
