President Trump Nominates January 6 Defense Attorney for U.S. Attorney Role

On Monday, President Donald Trump announced that he would nominate a former January 6th defense attorney for the crucial role of U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.

As Fox News reports, President Trump made his announcement via Truth Social, stating his intentions to nominate interim U.S. Attorney Ed Martin for the full-time job.

“Since Inauguration Day, Ed has been doing a great job as Interim U.S. Attorney, fighting tirelessly to restore Law and Order, and make our Nation’s Capital Safe and Beautiful Again,” President Trump declared. “He will get the job done.”

Martin first assumed the role immediately after President Trump’s inauguration on January 20th. In his capacity as interim U.S. Attorney, Martin oversaw the dismissals of hundreds of cases against defendants who peacefully protested at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021. President Trump ultimately issued pardons for over 1,500 J6 defendants, fulfilling another campaign promise.

Following the pardons and commutations, Martin filed a motion to remove all conditions that had been imposed on defendants with commuted sentences, including bans on returning to Washington D.C. or the Capitol building.

“If a judge decided that Jim Biden, General Mark Milley, or another individual were forbidden to visit America’s capital – even after receiving a last-minute, preemptive pardon from the former President – I believe most Americans would object,” said Martin in a statement following his decision. “The individuals referenced in our motion have had their sentences commuted – period, end of sentence.”

Martin had represented three J6 defendants, and previously spoke at one of the three “Stop the Steal” rallies that occurred between the 2020 election and the 2021 inauguration of Joe Biden. Originally from New Jersey, he earned his law degree at St. Louis University.

As U.S. Attorney, Martin has vowed to “pursue any and all legal action against anyone who impedes” the work of the newly-established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which is attempting to cut wasteful government spending and eliminate federal jobs and agencies determined to be unnecessary. He has also vowed to crack down on anyone who publicly threatens DOGE head Elon Musk and any of DOGE’s staffers, who have recently been doxxed by far-left activists on social media.
