About the Author: Patriotman
Patriotman currently ekes out a survivalist lifestyle in a suburban northeastern state as best as he can. He has varied experience in political science, public policy, biological sciences, and higher education. Proudly Catholic and an Eagle Scout, he has no military experience and thus offers a relatable perspective for the average suburban prepper who is preparing for troubled times on the horizon with less than ideal teams and in less than ideal locations.

Immediately, I thought
of “windtraps”, from
Frank Herbert’s
“Dune” series.
I don’t know what Herbert’s design was, but it seems
that a super-cold metallic surface, or possibly glass,
with a sealed, silver-infused catch basin and drain, would likely work, although bacteria build-up, and relative humidity, would, or could,
still be factors.
A true prepper-style, with NO wall electricity available, and
using a “Big Berkey,”-style
purifier supplementally, might
be handy, too.
How the windtraps
worked on an entirely
desert planet, I don’t know.
Of course, it was futuristic,
and science fiction, not science.
I would like some “mélange,” though.
