Family of J6 pipe bomb suspect denies he is a Trump supporter: Report

The grandmother of the January 6 pipe bomb suspect denied in a news report Friday that her grandson was a fan of President Donald Trump, arguing that he had no party affiliation and never votes in elections.

The 30-year-old suspect has been identified as Brian Cole Jr., who allegedly confessed to planting the two bombs and told FBI interrogators that he is a Trump supporter and holds anarchist views, sources told MS NOW.

Cole was charged on Thursday with placing a pipe bomb and the use of an explosive device, but has not entered a plea so far. He is due back in court on Dec. 15 for a detention hearing.

According to an FBI affidavit, investigators identified Cole as a suspect through analysis of credit card charges related to the purchase of pipe bomb components, cellphone towers and a license plate reader.

Cole’s grandmother Loretta told the Daily Mail that she had no idea her grandson may have been gathering parts to build the bombs from local businesses, stored them in the home, and then allegedly tried to carry out a terrorist attack.

“He’s borderline autistic,” she claimed. “He’s slow. He may be 30, but he’s got the mind of a 16-year-old. That’s why we’re thinking – What the hell? What’s going on?”

The grandmother said her grandson works a data entry job for his family’s bail bonds business and does not like either political party, so she does not believe the charges against Cole.

“He’s not politically affiliated with anything,” the grandmother said. “He has no social media contacts. He’s never online going back and forth with politics or anything like that. He says he don’t like either party.

“This young man is very calm and quiet,” she later said. “He just stays to himself. Nobody bothers him because he doesn’t bother anybody … He’s just off in a little world on his own. He stays downstairs and he used to be with his dog all the time. That’s why everything is so messed up with us because he’s a good kid. If you knew him, you would say that he couldn’t have done it. If he did, it was just him trying to prove a point or whatever.”

She also denied allegations that her grandson is a “political anarchist” and said he is not part of any gangs.

“All I can tell you is that I love my grandson,” she said. “He’s not a bad kid and he’s not affiliated with any gangs.”
