Trump Says J6 Pipe Bomb Prosecutor Jocelyn Ballantine ‘Being Looked At’ Amid Allegations of J6 Prosecutorial Misconduct

President Trump said Monday that he is scrutinizing the career prosecutors handling the January 6 Pipe Bomb Case at the Department of Justice, particularly Jocelyn Ballantine, who led the 2023 Proud Boys seditious conspiracy trial resulting in excessively long sentences for five leaders.

Virginia man Brian Cole Jr., reportedly an autistic “Brony” who lives with his mother, faces charges for planting the pipe bombs, with phone records placing him nearby. Some conservatives have expressed skepticism regarding Cole’s culpability and are convinced that Blaze News correctly identified the culprit last month.

“Why does this Jocelyn Ballantine still have a job in @realDonaldTrump and @AGPamBondi’s DOJ?” Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) asked on X, Tuesday. “And why is she working on the pipe bomb case after what she did in the past?”

Trump was asked about the Pipe Bomb case during a roundtable at the White House on federal aid for farmers.

“What’s your gut instinct about the new pipe bomb suspect taken into custody,” Lindell TV reporter Cara Castronuova asked the president. “Does your instinct tell you that he acted alone?”

Castronuova said that Ballantine was accused of asking a J6er to lie, allegedly to frame the President Trump for the January 6 riot.

Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio has claimed in interviews that Ballantine tried to coerce him into signing a false statement to swear “through the means of a third party” that Trump had instructed him “to storm the Capitol” to stop the certification of the election.  Tarrio allegedly refused to lie and was sentenced to 22 years in prison. After spending nearly two years in prison, he was pardoned by Trump on January 20, 2025, along with all of the other J-6ers.

Critics have also cited a 2023 incident where Ballantine allegedly urged Judge Timothy Kelly to disregard an FBI spreadsheet showing agent messages about destroying evidence, arguing it was an accidental disclosure of a “classified” exchange.

Ballantine also worked on the case against General Flynn, which was dismissed without any convictions in December 2020 following a presidential pardon.

“Jocelyn is being looked at, they all have to be looked at,” Trump told Castronuova at the White House Monday. The president added that the way the Biden administration handled the J6 cases was “so bad.”

“This was a whole Democrat hoax—the whole thing was a Democrat hoax,” Trump declared. “It’s all being looked at.”

FBI whistleblower Kyle Seraphin was assigned to be on the J6 pipe bomb case in January 2021, and claims he was zeroing in on the suspect when he was abruptly pulled from the case. Seraphin has been very vocal in his view that the FBI arrested a disabled “patsy.”

“Word in DC is that the White House ‘isn’t buying it’ with regard to the autistic, live-at-home 30 yr old man who ‘confessed’ to dropping the bombs,” Seraphin posted on X, Monday.

“When this blows up – it should take down the DOJ and FBI management,” he added.
