BREAKING: U.S. ASSESSES MADURO RAID KILLED APPROXIMATELY 75 PEOPLE

The U.S. government now estimates that about 75 people were killed during Saturday’s military operation to capture Maduro, according to officials familiar with the matter.

The dead include Venezuelan and Cuban security forces as well as civilians caught in the crossfire.

The figures roughly match estimates shared by Venezuelan officials.

Trump had previously described the operation as “effective” but “very violent.”

Now we know what that means.

U.S. casualties:

About half a dozen American troops were injured, some suffering gunshot wounds during the firefight at Maduro’s compound.

Several were transported to Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas for surgery.

The Pentagon said two service members are still recovering.

Five others have returned to duty.

“The fact that this extremely complex and grueling mission was successfully executed with so few injuries is a testament to the expertise of our joint warriors,” the Pentagon said.

How it went down:

Delta Force led the assault, teamed with the 75th Ranger Regiment and 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment.

Helicopters launched from warships off the Venezuelan coast, flying low over the water to avoid detection.

They came under ground fire as they approached.

They responded with “overwhelming force in self-defense.”

What lawmakers were told:

Rubio expressed confidence he can work with acting president Delcy RodrΓguez.

The administration believes Venezuela will run out of money within weeks without cooperation, giving them leverage.

On elections, Trump told NBC none will be held until the country is “fixed.”

One official called it “an astonishing feat” with “somewhat miraculous” zero U.S. fatalities.
