New Video of Slain Anti-ICE Activist Alex Petti Contradicts Narrative of ‘Peaceful Protester’
New video has emerged of Alex Pretti engaging in an earlier violent confrontation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents just 11 days before he was shot and killed by federal agents in Minneapolis.
According to the New York Post, he video, taken on Jan. 13, shows an armed and enraged Pretti harassing, cursing and spitting at immigration agents before kicking out a taillight on their vehicle and then getting into a scuffle with federal officers.
The new footage, released by the BBC, directly contradicts the prevailing narrative that has depicted Pretti as a “legal observer” and “peaceful protester” who was described by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as “the best of us, doing activities that are at the core of what it means to be an American.”
The video shows Pretti, dressed in clothing similar to what he was wearing the day he was shot, aggressively yelling and spitting at ICE agents as they attempted to drive away from him.
After Pretti smashed the rear taillight on the agents’ black SUV, he was tackled and taken to the ground by at least five agents who held him down until he retreated back into the crowd with a gun visibly tucked into the back of his pants.
CNN reported that Pretti allegedly broke a rib during that confrontation, but he was described by his family’s attorney as “posing no threat to anyone.”
11 days after that clash, Pretti was fatally shot by Border Patrol agents after attempting to wedge himself between a female protester and ICE agents as he violently resisted agents who had tackled him and were attempting to disarm him.
Pretti’s death has sparked intense emotional narratives from the left, including tearful celebrity tributes and moments of silence at NBA games in an attempt to paint him as a peaceful nurse who was attacked by federal agents for no reason.
His shooting was the second deadly force incident involving ICE officers in Minnesota this month after 37-year-old Renee Good was shot by a federal agent after ramming him with her car.
It’s too soon to know if Pretti will become a left-wing icon like George Floyd whose death in 2020 sparked months of violent riots and lawlessness across the country.
However, Pretti’s family has retained Steve Schleicher who served as a special prosecutor for Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison in the state’s case against police officer Derek Chauvin.
