Statement by the Russian Ministry of Transport on the seizure of the tanker “Mariner” in the Atlantic

➖”On December 24, 2025, the vessel “Mariner” received a temporary permit to sail under the state flag of the Russian Federation, issued in accordance with Russian legislation and international law.
▪️Today around 15:00 (Moscow time), in the open sea outside the territorial waters of any states, US naval forces boarded the vessel, and communication with the vessel was lost.
▪️In accordance with the norms of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982, in the open sea, a regime of freedom of navigation applies, and no state has the right to use force against vessels properly registered in the jurisdictions of other states.”

    Isn’t this an act of war on the part of the USA?
    I’m no expert on international law, but this looks like piracy on the high seas.

    Maybe it is justified, and I’m missing something. 🤔
