Two Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang members were shot and wounded by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents in Portland, Oregon, Thursday afternoon during a targeted vehicle stop in East Portland.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed the agents involved were Border Patrol personnel conducting operations related to a Venezuelan national involved in a recent shooting in Portland.

According to DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin, the driver of the car “weaponized his vehicle and attempted to run over” the agents, prompting one of them to fire defensive shots out of fear for his life.

When agents identified themselves to the vehicle occupants, the driver weaponized his vehicle and attempted to run over the law enforcement agents. Fearing for his life and safety, an agent fired defensive shots. The driver drove off with the passenger, fleeing the scene. This situation is evolving and more information is forthcoming.

The man and woman were later found with gunshot wounds and transported to a local hospital; their conditions remain unknown.

McLaughlin said the passenger in the vehicle was recently involved in a shooting in Portland and was the target of the operation.

“The passenger of the vehicle and target is a Venezuelan illegal alien affiliated with the transnational Tren de Aragua prostitution ring and involved in a recent shooting in Portland,” McLaughlin said. “The vehicle driver is believed to be a member of the vicious Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua.”

In a statement shortly after the shooting was confirmed, Mayor Keith Wilson (D) released a statement condemning federal immigration enforcement, not the Tren de Aragua gang bangers who tried to run over the Border Patrol agents.

“Portland is now grappling with another deeply troubling incident,” Wilson said.

“We cannot sit by while constitutional protections erode and bloodshed mounts. Portland is not a “training ground” for militarized agents, and the “full force” threatened by the administration has deadly consequences. As Mayor, I call on ICE to end all operations in Portland until a full investigation can be completed,” he stated.

Portland-area congresswoman Rep. Janelle Bynum told CNN that the federal agents who shot and wounded the two Tren de Aragua suspects in Portland were engaging in “state-sponsored terrorism.”

President Trump’s rapid response team on X strongly condemned Bynum’s rhetoric.

“Absolutely psychotic, deranged rhetoric that puts a target on the back of every brave Patriot in law enforcement,” posted Rapid Response 47. “SICK.”

Following the ICE involved shooting of a anti ICE agitator in Minneapolis, Wednesday, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem said there had been four car ramming  domestic terror attacks on federal officers that day alone—three of them in Minneapolis.

“We have seen over 100 of these vehicle rammings happen in just recent weeks and this must stop,” the DHS Secretary said.

Noem reiterated that immigration agents have faced a 1,300 percent surge in assaults and an 8,000 percent spike in death threats in the past year.

DHS reported Thursday that car-ramming attacks against federal law enforcement officers is up over 3,000 percent.

“From January 21, 2025 – January 7, 2026, ICE law enforcement officers experienced 66 vehicular attacks against them, compared to only 2 during the same time period the previous year,” the Department said in a press release. “This is a 3,200 percent increase in vehicular attacks.”

Left-wing agitators gathered outside the Portland ICE facility for a small but growing protest,” according to KGW.
