RAF Fairford fire: Huge blaze at base used by US bombers as 999 crews swarm
A blaze has erupted at an airbase in Gloucestershire currently in use by the US military.
Multiple emergency service crews were scrambled to tackle the fire at RAF Fairford in the early hours of Sunday morning. Images from the scene suggested the roof of the building had caved in.
No injuries have been reported and no RAF aircraft have sustained damage, though the status of any US equipment remains unclear.
The Government granted the American air force permission to utilise RAF Fairford, near the Wiltshire border, following the onset of the war in Iran. Washington has deployed the facility to send bombers on defensive operations against Tehran.
The airbase has seen protests in response, with approximately 200 people previously gathering outside its gates.
