John Brown started the Civil War and the Left remains committed to his goals
There’s been much talk of the Civil War lately
It must be remembered that John Brown started the war: “Could the South stay in the same country with people who could complacently look forward to seeing these weapons thrust into the bodies of helpless women and children?”

Such is the question southerners had to ask themselves after Harper’s Ferry, Thomas Fleming notes in A Disease in the Public Mind
As war came, and they decided whether to secede or not, the question at top of mind for those who weren’t huge slaveholders, but rather who just lived in the South, was whether they could remain politically tied to John Brown’s friends, particularly as those friends sent legions South…legions which sang “John Brown’s Body” as they marched, glorifying a man who had delighted at the thought of inflicting horrible deaths on women and children
They could not do so, and so reluctantly supported secession
Such should be remembered now, as the left remains intent on honoring and following in the footsteps of Brown
