The U.S. military said Sunday that search teams have recovered the remains of an American soldier who went missing during military exercises in Morocco last week after a fall during a recreational hike.

The soldier was identified as 1st Lt. Kendrick Lamont Key Jr., a 27-year-old Air Defense Artillery officer assigned to Charlie Battery, 5th Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment under the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command.

According to U.S. military officials, Key was one of two American service members who fell from a cliff while hiking during downtime associated with military training activities in Morocco.

U.S. Army Europe and Africa confirmed Sunday that recovery teams located Key’s remains after a weeklong search effort.

A second U.S. soldier involved in the incident is still missing, according to a U.S. defense official cited in reports. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
