15 Antifa Goons Face Slew of Charges For Attacks on Federal Officers During Anti-ICE Riots in Minneapolis
The Department of Justice announced Tuesday that 15 Antifa-affiliated defendants have been charged with conspiracy to impede or injure federal officers, along with several other charges related to the violent anti-ICE uprising in Minneapolis earlier this year.
A federal grand jury in Minnesota indicted the agitators for plotting violence against ICE officers during the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown in the Twin Cities, dubbed “Operation Metro Surge.”
During a press conference announcing the indictment, U.S. Attorney for Minnesota Daniel N. Rosen declared that “political violence is the scourge of our times” and said that federal law enforcement is dedicated to combatting that violence.
He told reporters that the defendants are members of Direct Action Minnesota (also known as DAMN) and its subgroup the Black Cat Workers Collective, a group of “Antifa affinity” organizations that train members in aggressive tactics against law enforcement.
Rosen said the Black Cat Workers Collective “advocates, promotes and utilizes militant tactics and violence,” and pointed out that on social media, the group even features a banner depicting the 2020 torching of the Minneapolis Police Department’s 3rd Precinct, along with the words, “Welcome to Minneapolis!”
DAMN played a central role in coordinating efforts to block lawful targeted arrests and deportations during Operation Metro Surge.
The 15 DAMN agitators each face maximum prison sentences of over 20 years for the following crimes:
● Conspiracy to impede or injure a federal officer (Up to 6 years)
● Solicitation to commit a crime of violence (Up to half the maximum sentence of the crime solicited
● Interstate threats and stalking (Up to 5 years)
● Assault on a federal officer (Up to 8 years)
● Destruction of government property. (Up to 5 years)
According to prosecutors, “DAMN members worked closely with rapid response networks (RRN) to identify and harass federal immigration and law enforcement officers in order to harass and prevent officers from performing their duties.”
The indictment said “RRNs are ‘inherently militant’ with the ‘explicit aim of combatting and stopping a federal agent with a gun.’”
Their aggressive tactics led to the fatal shootings of two anti-ICE agitators, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, by federal agents.
“This action is not peaceful, it’s obstructive, destructive and unlawful,” Rosen said of DAMN during a press conference Tuesday announcing the charges. “The organization trains its members in the aggressive use of shields against law enforcement, surveillance, operational planning, and rapid mobilization against law enforcement actions.”
Rosen said the group used shields, vehicles, and blocks of ice to block federal agents and interfere with arrests at the Whipple Federal Building during direct actions in January and March. He also accused the agitators of stalking officers by “identifying, following, surveilling, harassing and confronting law enforcement officers.”
He said the agitators “even followed law enforcement officers from locations like the Whipple building to the officers’ homes.”
Democrat officeholders have repeatedly denounced federal immigration officers for covering their faces during operations to deter this type of harassment. In Blue states they have even passed laws attempting to ban federal law enforcement from wearing masks, although those laws don’t pass Constitutional muster.
Twelve of the 15 charged were arrested on Tuesday, one was already in custody, and two remain at large.
Kyle Wagner (aka “Antifa Kyle”), the notorious cross-dressing agitator who was arrested in February on federal threat and cyberstalking charges after threatening to assault, kill and doxx officers in Minneapolis, was among those federally charged.
