Spain is mobilizing its military to provide border security after thousands of migrants stormed through the fence on the country’s border with Spain.

The border crisis had been building up for some time, and on Thursday, thousands of migrants breached a border fence and poured into the city of Cueta. At least nine of the migrants died in the attempt, NBC News reported.

The Spanish government said that it would send the Armed Forces to back up the Civil Guard to maintain security in Cueta. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska will visit Ceuta Friday.

Rachid Sbihi, head of the association that represents Spain’s Civil Guard officers in Ceuta, said that the border had “totally collapsed,” and thousands of migrants are pouring into the country.
