Secret Service puts 3 officials on leave

The U.S. Secret Service this week placed three officials on leave amid a misconduct probe, the agency confirmed.

“Our critical work demands that our workforce maintain an unwavering commitment to duty, honesty, and courage in all aspects of their jobs,” an agency spokesman said, according to Politico. “We will continue to pursue the level of excellence that is worthy of the mission which has been entrusted to us by the American people.”

The agency did not identify the personnel placed on leave.

The Secret Service has faced considerable scrutiny in recent years, with much of it stemming from the myriad assassination attempts on President Donald Trump.

The first major attempt occurred during the 2024 presidential campaign, during a rally in Butler, Pa. A separate attempt took place at a Florida golf course and led to the arrest and conviction of Ryan Routh.

More recently, a suspect attempted to break into the White House Correspondent Association dinner and discharged a weapon before being apprehended by security.
