Here is how the Saudi-backed forces collapsed, triggering a spike in oil prices:

Hodeidah Governorate: Overnight Ansarallah forces broke through the city of Hays after days of fighting with the Saudi-backed forces of Yemen’s internationally recognized government. The loss of Hays triggered a widescale collapse that began with a retreat towards the port city of Al-Khawkhah, but then progressed to a full scale retreat from Hodeidah Governorate towards Al Mokha to the south.

Taiz Governorate: After the withdrawal from Hays and Al-Khawkah, the coalition forces of the internationally recognized government regrouped 50km south in the vital port city of Al Mokha. Shortly afterwards, the Giants Brigade – which was originally formed by the UAE, but now sides with the Saudi-linked forces – pulled out of Al Mokha to head for Aden and the collapse continued. After a few hours of encircling the port city, Ansarallah was seen driving through the city center without any clear indication of fighting.

Currently, Ansarallah is pressing further south to take the coastal town of Dhubab, which sits at the opening to the Bab Al Mandab, a key chokepoint for tanker traffic. Taking Dhubab would grant Ansarallah control over the entire western Yemeni coast down to the center of the Bab Al Mandab.

There are also reports from Yemeni analysts that Ansar forces launched an amphibious assault on the strategic island archipelago of Jabal Zuqar and Greater and Lesser Hanish that sit in the middle of the Southern Red Sea shipping corridor.

Brent crude oil prices surged above $105 before retreating slightly.
