Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signaled Tuesday that he is ready to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin directly and end the years-long war between their two countries.

The comment occurred alongside the United Nations General Assembly, where Zelensky met with President Donald Trump, who has pressed Kyiv toward an energy truce with Moscow after Ukrainian drones struck Russian refineries earlier this year, causing U.S. oil prices to rise.

The Ukrainian leader said he is ready to meet Putin face-to-face as part of potential US-led trilateral discussions with Russia, and said the three countries need to move “as quick as possible,” to end the war, according to the New York Post.

“I’m ready … I’m ready anytime,” Zelensky said. “You’re ready to speak or not? You’re ready to sit and negotiate? This is a signal. And you hear from Ukraine, ‘Yes’ … and we don’t hear from Russia.”

Zelensky said his discussions with Trump focused on the possibility of an energy ceasefire and US-supplied Patriot defense systems for “winter” warfare.

“I’m not sure that Russia is ready, but we spoke about an energy cease-fire,” Zelensky said. “If they don’t want us to attack their diesel and refineries, we are ready – if they will not attack our energy system, electricity, heating system and water supply.

“I don’t know the position of Russia,” he continued. “God bless, the American side will find a way to bring them to any kind of negotiation.”

It is not clear where a three-way negotiation between the United States, Russia and Ukraine would take place, but Zelensky previously floated meeting Putin at the G20 summit in Miami this December.
