Thoughts on the Counter-UAS Roles
Most C-UAS debates start with systems containing sensors, jammers, interceptors, and lasers. 📡🛰️
Masayuki Sasaki asks, What does each defensive function primarily act upon❓
Detection acts on information.
Passive protection acts on the defended force.
Non-kinetic defeat acts on the drone system.
Kinetic defeat acts on the drone platform.
That leaves a fifth object of action, the mission environment.
Environmental denial shapes the conditions an FPV drone must fly, approach, and attack under, degrading its perception, narrowing its routes, raising operator workload, and worsening terminal geometry.
No single effect is decisive on its own, but they accumulate, and the pressure builds across the attack chain.
It works across the architecture, and its test is whether the next defensive function inherits a better engagement.
