What does ‘victory’ mean in Iran?
🇺🇸🇮🇷 The US stopped bombing Iran after 38 days and gave Tehran time to reconstitute, and now the only outcomes left are lose and lose more
Could America beat Iran? Absolutely.
Could it do it on the cheap? That was the bet.
Ryan McBeth thinks this war was necessary… his line is that if someone had done this to North Korea 25 years ago, Pyongyang wouldn’t have the bomb.
Which makes his verdict on the execution land harder.
The air campaign worked. What didn’t: a plan that amounted to “drop a couple of bombs, six weeks later the government’s going to fall,” no coalition, no allied frigates because America scrapped its own, and a pause on April 9 that let Iran rebuild and start the missile-for-missile cycle.
So what does “victory” even mean now? He says stop using the word.
Every modern war is lose versus lose more, and the realistic end is containment, which worked on Saddam for a decade.
The blockade can run almost forever.
The cost is two carriers and deterrence somewhere else.
