Hawke, first off, thanks for the work you and the crew do here, whether video/ written word ect. That said,I prefer the written word, gets me to think more by reading I believe, and that to me is the whole point, getting me to think.I realize some stuff needs visual,a example building a debris shelter/wound care, better with seeing it happen.I do enjoy/learn a lot from comments so that would be the same either way info. presented with comments.I mean especially the AR-AK/1911-Glock/Chevy-Ford comments about which is better(correct answers @ bottom)!Really though do learn a lot from comments/?’s so would still get that either way.I will say a… Read more »
I read fast, so prefer written articles most of the time. However, there are times when being able to just listen as I work would be a good thing.
I think doing the occasional video, or just audio version of an article is a good idea.
Occasionally yes. Maybe a few more than what you’ve been doing lately, maybe 20% or so of total articles. I personally like the written format (w/ photos) that I then cut and paste into word doc and print for my ‘survival library’ and of course, giving credit to both the author(s) and the website (and definitely not profiting from those articles. That would be called STEALING, and that’s a hangin’ offense where I come from…lol.) But articles such as NCScouts commo lessons, Rascal’s med lessons, JCD’s and DTG’s practical small unit tactics and gear selection, et al. its all good… Read more »
No video or audio. I strongly prefer text over video & audio. Hit the topic sentences, read more if it is interesting, and move on. Many times a video or audio presenter is disorganized, slow, and laborious possibly because they haven’t taken the time to clearly and concisely gather their thoughts for presentation. If someone is going to express an idea to others, they should work to do so without wasting time. Much of the time, video or audio is just wandering through the presenter’s thoughts on a topic with little prior thought. There are no cue cards or notes… Read more »
Stick to writing, please. Easy to understand why. You took 2:55 on this vid to ask a six word question.
All forms work for me. When I’m working with my hands on a project, I like listening to podcast/vid.
Thanks for all the info and thoughts.
No, thanks. Here is the problem with audio/video … it’s much slower than reading. Even if you run the YouTube at 1.5 speed, it’s still slower than reading. Also, skimming is impossible. With most videos, I find myself, eventually, just shouting at the talker, “GET TO THE POINT, ALREADY!” That is usually just before I click off. But here is the real bottom line. It’s lazy on the part of the creator, you. You want to trade your time spent preparing an article, actually polishing it and refining it, for my time in processing the rambling, slow results. Again, no… Read more »
Seems a lot of us are readers here. I prefer the written word for the same reasons as the others. It’s easier and faster to read with comprehension. I’m a patreon supporter under another account, and I realize it’s more time consuming to write well. A YouTube channel would be cool. Thanks for all your effort!
Do it!
And get Bracken on with you again sometime soon.
I would be up for a short 5-7 minute current news cast..daily or weekly…(as in News that is relevant to the Martial Citizen.) As for articles, I say keep them in Print, Much more succinct and compact that way. My gripe with podcast or video articles has always been that regardless of who the author or commentator is, their personality gets in the way of the information and some of the time the podcast starts revolving around that… What I mean by that is if a person is long winded or not a very good public speaker, it can be… Read more »
I like both, when the peace is a product review i like a video. Discussing concepts is better in text. Though your area denial weapon concept that combined both is top notch.
Perhaps written text with small videos as appropriate?
I was raised Hi power/ FAL / hilux but as of recent i am 5906 / ar / Tacoma all the way.
Honestly, for articles I prefer written, one the primary reasons is because I like to copy and past product names or URLs to things mentioned.
But, with that said I would be more interested in seeing podcasts and or dedicated videos of something that is visual. I would still like to see NCScout make some video courses for instance. Also I wouldn’t mind a written article with a video embded of something you may want to demonstrate related to the rest of the article.
Personally, I much prefer written articles. I can read without necessarily having other people aware of my subject matter. Video/audio tend to attract attention. Also, I don’t watch or listen to podcasts and similar unless I can devote my full attention to it. They don’t have the appeal to me like they do for other folks.
But by all means if other folks want them, drive on!
I’d rather read than watch. PR
