Thank you Hawkeye for taking the time to film then edit your vid.

Just a few comments and questions in no particular order.

    1) How many ticks did you pull off your body after your excursion into the swamp? \”/
    2) My first impression was “I liked the pattern”. Once the film rolled, it seemed the camo pattern was to dark for your AO. As you said in the video, the pattern may have a different look in the height of the summer.
    3) Have you thought of doing a night vid on different camp patterns? I call it the “Brushbeater Low Light Test”. It might be interesting doing that one night when you and a few friends have free (ha, ha, ha) time on your hands. The team did this at NC Scout’s Recon & Surveillance class in February. Mosey Oak came out # 1 if I remember of all camo patterns wore by the students.
    4) Thank you for the suggestion of checking out 0241 Tactical https://0241tactical.com/ The products they sell look great at fair prices.

    73 & God Bless,

      1. None. I hate ticks and take precautions. ;-)
      2. Yeah, that’s why I want to do it again later in the summer when everything is in full foliage.
      3. Yes I have. The problem is, my camera isn’t very fancy, and doesn’t allow for much adjustment of the settings. As such, it does pretty poorly in low light, and I don’t think it would give a fair/accurate representation or results.
      4. 0241 is run by a good friend. He make’s solid stuff for sure.

our primary residence is in the desert. shrubs and small trees, and cactus. a-tacs au rules. our bol will be in the forest. although that patter still works because it’s not dense forest, we’re trying to decide between multicam and a-tacs fg. hadn’t heard of the pattern you demo’d. thx for the review.

Something you might want to try is mixing and matching. In forests, lighter colors work well for bottoms because most of the dominant colors are grey/brown. Higher up, around chest level, they transition into green. This is one reason deer, coyotes, squirrels, etc all can vanish even just a few feet into the woodline.

And if you keep your web gear in coyote, it’ll all mate up just fine and pick up the dominant colors in your environment. AU is really good stuff, even better than three color desert which is one of the best patterns the US has ever fielded. Light tan or coyote makes the best base layer for a camo pattern as is, and we used to make woodland ghillies out of desert camo base layers with brown and green jute.

That makes sense. So maybe a-tacs au on bottom, coyote web gear (which we already have), and some new tacs fg blouses on top with matching boonie. That’ll save funds for elsewhere.

Sounds like a plan brother. ;)

That would probably work quite well.

Thanks for taking the time to demo of this camo.

I’ve thought a lot about trying to do some sort of counter-shading like animals have but they’re all quadrupeds with much more vertical area to darken and lighten. Counter-shading with a biped seems to be less effective since we can go prone, duck, etc.

Mixing and matching per NC Scout’s comment sounds like a quick solution to break up the human shape at a distance but still seems lo leave a bit to be desired. It’s like almost all camos only consider medium to close range with their patterns. At a distance most still make you look like a brown or green human.

Sitka and Kryptek had macro patterns but aren’t really intended to work under night vision like .mil patterns.

Part of me wants to grab some various ATACS patterns, and play around with lightening/darkening larger sections with UV light, die, or bleach and get some long and close range photos in lots of environments.
