Century Arms VSKA… Good rifle for the Armed Prepared Citizen?

Back in November of last year, I started trying out a new Century Arms VSKA. I’m no stranger to the AK rifle, I just haven’t had one for a while. I decided to correct that. It’s taken me some time to get things going with this one as my surgery and recovery kinda got in the way. I put up a couple of intro/initial thoughts videos on it last year. You can go find those on my channel if you’re interested. I finally got some good range time with it which you can see below, and, spoiler alert….. I like this gun. A lot. I’ll have more coming on this one for sure. Teaser….it’s not the only AK I’ll be showing/trying out…….

I have no problem with the accuracy or reliability, but those AK sights just won’t do it for my old eyes. Where will most folks mount a red dot on an AK? Forward, on the rear iron sight position, or on a modified dust cover? If on the dust cover, how repeatable and reliable will the zero be? This is one of the main reasons I’m sticking with ARs, a good solid mounting position for optical sights.

There are a number of good ways to mount optics these days one an AK. And yeah, same boat here. 9 years ago my eyes and AK irons worked fine together, now, not so much.

Good video by AK-47 Operator’s Union on mounting an optic on an AK’s dust cover pic rail.
I don’t think I’m ready to do pushups on my upside-down AR, putting all my weight on my Burris 3X scope, so kudos to these guys for their torture test!

Great review. Good rifle. The only slip was when you stated that you needed to move the front sight to the left to shift the rifles point of impact to the left. As a long time ak guy that would be basic for you. I was surprised when u said it. All in all a very accurate rufle

It was a simple case of a lack of coffee for the morning and my mouth didn’t say what my brain was thinking. I was looking at the group, and my brain was thinking move it to the left, not the front sight.
